Darksbane0
Really just wondering what the opinions of the IPB devs are about the advantages of sticking with Prototype. I'm not asking for a change but I'm just wondering what thoughts are considering Prototype.js/Scriptaculous lack of updates recently and jQuery's seeming market domination? I understand that the plan is to gradually move Prototype based code over to jQuery.
Management Matt Posted December 20, 2011 Management Share Posted December 20, 2011 To the end user, there isn't really any difference. To developers, jQuery is more compact and has better third party support but it'd mean rewriting almost all our javascript to adopt it completely. It's something we have an eye on. Rikki
We have a lot of investment in Prototype, both in terms of existing code, and in developer skills - so switching wouldn't be trivial. That said, it's something I'm hoping we're able to do in the medium-future, because the benefits of jQuery are clear. We've already begun an initial transition to jQuery for new modules in the ACP.
