File Name: [HQ] My Followed Topics Hook

File Submitter: InvisionHQ

File Submitted: 04 Nov 2011

File Category: User and Social Engagement

This hook when enabled, will show your members topics they "Follow", it presents them with the last posters user information, and for consistency with 3.2.x+, the the topic link is formed to take them to the last post in the topic, the "unread" dot/star that appears when a topic is unread will take them to the first unread post.
You as the admin choose how many followed topics are to be displayed, default is 5.
This setting Limits The Number of Topics to Show in the hook, set to 0 to show all followed topics NOT RECOMMENDED, set a limit to show X followed topics.
Sorts by last update.

I think the links are broken in this hook, or demo account does not have permission to view the content that appears inside this hook.

If I click the one of the links, (for example) it will take me to

http://www.marcherte...nts-in-forum-r6

which is either an invalid link, or the demo account cannot access this page.

The demo account cannot have permission to view the items.....
Its functionality based on the items being unread.
you read, you break the demo.
That account is very purposely setup to allow the functionality to be seen, without me having to constantly re-setup the demo account....
I can assure you the links are valid... i just don't have the time/energy to set-up a demo account every single time someone uses it, because they read the item.... which would lead further users of the demo account to think the hook did nothing at all....
Anyone may PM me for a full one-use demo account, but the one i provide access to here NEEDS to be reusable.

Anyway to limit the number of items shown to say 5? I had around 50 items being watched and the home-page took forever to load.. Rather it query only 5 for all users.. Thanks!

fair point... and rather than hardcode it... popped a single system setting in, so you may choose that number as you please...
reimport the hook to apply the update.
Now defaults to a limit of 5, configurable as you need.

The plugin doesn't work for me anymore. It just never updates and sticks with one post. You said you released version 1.0.2 but the file I downloaded is stil 1.0.1. PM me if you want to look into it.

But great idea nontheless

Did you reconfigure the limit setting that i was requested to add? the instant you view the topic, it should no longer be on that list.
I freshly downloaded it... while the version num on the hook says 1.0.1, it is 1.0.2 code, as that limit was added upon the request of users here.
...though upon further investigation, it does seem the hook is catching up and showing topics in followed forums as well..... which was actually not intended :logik: looking into the odd behaviour... will have a patch out ASAP

should say new version...
there are a couple of items at play here.
A: i am unable to determine wether the topic has been read until inside my result set, so the limit here is actually detrimental, as The last 5 Followed Topics may all be read, in which case nothing would show, even though there ARE unread topics you follow.
B. my check as to wether it was read at all was slightly askew... have fixed that locally... but this does not actually resolve the above primary issue....
seeing if i can pull an ordering trick to resolve.

Hi there,

The hook says it's for 3.2.x but I tried it anyway for 3.3.4 and it shows up fine as a side block. However, it's showing all my followed content not the limit of 5.

Does this hook work correctly for 3.3.4?

Thanks!

i revamped it while fixing it.

Version 1.0.4 Released

  • Using The Like Class.
  • Just Pulling the num, unread or not -.-
  • Much Lighter.
  • Bugfix: Only pull the set limit.
  • Multiple Template Improvements.

Quick question, does the newest recent post move the topic to the top of the list? I just installed this hook yesterday and today one of the follow topics was updated but it did not show up at the top. It's in the original location within the list of topics. It does show that it was updated today.

Thanks!

I upgraded to 3.4 and downloaded the latest version of this hook. The read/unread icons are showing. Is there anyway to remove those?

Thanks!

edit the skin template Forum View->hookFollowedTopics.

No, it does not. Sadly, I would need to expend far too many resources to actually properly pull the results in order of last post.

I could sort the result set so it would 'appear' to be in that order, but that would be a trick of display, as the results are not pulled in that order.
