Useful, for example if we don't want to certain content (eg. forums) were visible to search bots but for guest already so. October 25, 201113 yr Very useful, been looking for something like this. I have to enable Guest to access stuff like Member because Bot group share the same Group as Guess. Just wondering if I read this Mod correctly that it allow the Bot Group to change to another such as Members, but Guest will stay as Guest access without interfering with the Bot right?
October 26, 201113 yr Author Yes, guest group will stay unchanged. Only group of bots(google/yahoo etc.) is changed when creating their session.
November 1, 201113 yr So basically, if you use this, you can allow bots to see the entire website, while still running a closed community? If so, this is one of the best modifications IPB has out there.
November 2, 201113 yr Author So basically, if you use this, you can allow bots to see the entire website, while still running a closed community? Yes. But you must remember that if someone change browser UserAgent(for example with User Agent Switcher extension for Firefox) then it will be treated as bots.
November 2, 201113 yr Yes. But you must remember that if someone change browser UserAgent(for example with User Agent Switcher extension for Firefox) then it will be treated as bots. Well that is a bit of a problem. But I think it is well worth it for possibility of better SEO. Again, such an amazing mod. Great work.
November 19, 201113 yr Will this work for 3.2.3? And can you guy explain to me what you talking about User Agent Switcher extension for Firefox because I don't get it. Also will this mod effect the robots.txt? I guess this will make SEO better since bot can now see topic and thread. Just wondering how you know the bot is permission group is working and get place on the bot? Anyone use this and does it help improve SEO?
November 25, 201113 yr Author Yes, this works with 3.2.3. User Agent Switcher can change informations about your browser and for example you can be treated as a google bot. This hook only change group of search bots from guest to another. What you do with that is depending on you. You could give them additional access or block standard options.
March 30, 201213 yr does this work for 3.3 ? its almost essential for my forum looks like it doesn't. waiting for an update... in 3.3 bots can read topics previously blocked for them... (((
April 16, 201213 yr Author Hook should work. Check the hook settings, Member Groups and Member Permissions.
April 18, 201213 yr Hook should work. Check the hook settings, Member Groups and Member Permissions. I think its allowing bots in to areas that it shouldn't!
May 12, 201213 yr This hook has been causing all sorts of SQL errors...... hooks/p32BotGroupSessions_82761902b08666c2f25b3c91f4fa816b.php | [ssoPublicSessions].__construct | 23 /sources/classes/session/api.php | [p32BotGroupSessions].__construct | 390 Any chance you could find a fix for this?
July 26, 201212 yr Hi, Does anyone have this working ok on Version:IP.Board 3.3.4 Mine wasn't working. I had to disable it. I'm hoping an update is released.
August 3, 201212 yr Does anyone know up to which IP.Board version does this hook work well? I didn't know the built-in option was removed and I've always had the bots as their own group. So, I'd really need something like this. I'm running IPB 3.3.2
August 4, 201212 yr To answer my own question. I installed it on IPB 3.3.2 and it seems to be working without problem. Great hook, thank you very much Pavulon87; like some of your other mods, this restores a great feature.
December 13, 201212 yr Installed on ipb 3.4.1 and I do not know if it's working. But at the end of the forum bots are "color" and not the original color of the group that sent them to enter.
February 24, 201312 yr Was wondering if this still working on latest IPBoard 3.4.2? I create a New Group for Bot and I notice the Bot color did changed, but I want to make sure. Please answer, thanks.
June 19, 201311 yr I think the best way to test this is installing the User Agent Switcher for Firefox. See here. After you've done so in your Firefox, go to Tools > Default User Agent > Search Bots > Googlebot 2.1 Visit your forum and log out. That will allow you to see your forum the same way the Google bot does. If you've given some subforums permissions for that Bot Group you created, but not to Guests, and you can see those subforums without being logged in, it means it works.
September 16, 201311 yr Not working on 3.4.5 and it's a shame as I really need this. Actually, forget that. It does work fine on 3.4.5 :)
