MageLeif
I've never understood the point of these types of pages. http://community.invisionpower.com/forum/180-invision-power-services-inc/ No additional information is shown than appears on the main index. I honestly can't think of any use. Why not just remove that page altogether? Especially considering IPB's recent stance on removing bloat.
qscott86
No, please do not remove it. They shouldn't be removing things just to remove them. It is a necessary feature because it allows one to view only the forums for that category instead of the entire board. While that may not be a big issue on this board, if you have a board with many forums listed under several categories, it does make a difference. That isn't bloat.. this is just nit-picking. MageLeif
Fair enough, even though most boards aren't that large.
Olivier Turbis
Remove it.

Jυra
I'd rather have it gone, doesn't serve any purpose even on large forums where people will still use the index or new content pages.
MageLeif
Adding a poll since people seem to have split opinions.Edit: Or not, didn't realize there were limitations on editing.
Michael
You could conceivable have a setup whereby one of the main forums you see on the board index acts as a category, and just contains subforums, but the forum immediately below it is a regular forum with topics in it. If you removed the category view like what you're suggesting here, the first forum there would not be a link you could go to, you could only navigate to those subforums it contains through the links visible on the board index. But the forum right below it, which looks no different to the casual observer, would be clickable. You could opt to just not have the root level categories be ones you could go directly into, but really, this sounds like more trouble than it's worth. It's not really the same as other things that have been removed, what you're referring to is simply the standard forum view, it just happens to only hold forums in certain cases. A poll wouldn't help much either, what you see posted on the forums is only a small portion of the customer base; any polling done would be based on a statistically insignificant sample size. Eh, I suppose that's true, even though it's still a rare case. And just because the poll wouldn't cover every IPB user doesn't mean that it'd be useless. dogpatch
Absoultely do not remove that feature! Its a must have for large sites with a variety of content.
.time
I actually removed the link to those in my smaller forum, its easy enough to do via a template edit.

Tanax
Or add a setting to the categories which are "Viewable seperately: Y/N" which would allow you to either enable or disable this category view.
