Hi there and thanks for the mod, I have a question regarding the image resizing. At the moment the images are stretched badly what would you recommend?

One other question I just thought of. How do I stop it appearing at the top of the page when you visit an article. I would rather it just show on the home page

Image size is controlled via css and the block itself, feel free to change it up.
Use The Block in Your Homepage Articles Frontpage template, if only using 1 frontpage template, duplicate it add the block, switch your homepage to it.

Pretty new to this IPB system, so perhaps I am being a bit thick, but how to get the images in there so the block doesn't look...bad...

Being a IPB newbie I suppose I am just not sure how to use this.

I know that is kind of a broad question. Suppose I want to feed it the last four blog entires from a specific blog, how do I get the images in the featured content section?

The Featured Images are The Article picture field... this is meant to be used as An Article feed block.

excellent. I figured as much. Sorry for the obtuse questions. As I said, This is the first time I have used IPB, normally use WP ,but this particular one wanted IPB..so here we are. I am trying to learn on the fly.

Thanks for the tip.
so for the articles in the feature, I just need to make sure I upload a pic that is large enough to fill the feature.

Another stupid question...can this be coded into a Portal page? Or simply used on the content generated content page...

  • 1 month later...

Just purchased, downloaded and installed. It functions OK but I was expecting the appearance to be more like that shown in the preview image - index.php?app=downloads&module=display&s rather than the traditional IP block wrapper.

Could you please advise or PM the script to achieve this look?

Many thanks,

Many thanks,

I have updated the file with cleaner css.. in regards to that, its a matter of skin CSS(maintitle, general_box, namely), but the slider is transparent, and hover effects via opacity with this update, as well as full similar functionality from the 8 picture slider and overall cleanup/standardization.
Demo showcasing the update with default, but do remember it utilizes skin css for colors.
Also... I believe I've killed the image stretch issue... 500x500 for main pic.. sidebar images for both blocks have standardized height/widths.
Do note, the screenshot you picked happens to be someone with css capabilities that bought my block and tweaked it to fit the styles they needed there.. but this iteration, I feel is MUCH closer to the mark.
Also put up a couple of free skins... made no modifications other than SAME css/js includes to show versatility

Thank you,

Can I ask a couple of questions then please?

What would I need to change in the Block script that would change the width of the article title?

Is it possible to remove the Block wrapper box to have a plain background and how would I do this?

(using the 4 picture slider at the moment)

1. you would be looking at changing the #featured .contentdiv and in doing so the entire slider width(more css twitch).
TO NOTE, the whole sliders dimensions are controlled via CSS markup, not the JS script.
2. Open the block, remove from the top:

<div class='general_box'>

	<h3>{$title}</h3>

and remove from the bottom:

</div>

<br />

Save.

Awesome app. But when we test it and resize the window the featured articles area adjusts but the four articles thumbs do not and it looks not good. How can I fix this? Thank you much.
Oops, also. My articles are not linking correctly. What do I have to change to get them to link to the article? Right now they link to the PAGES page lol

Thank you

#featured .pagination a img {

padding: 5px;

height: 140px;

width: 140px;

opacity:0.7;

filter:alpha(opacity=70);

}

changing this width/height affects the thumbnails, also note the main image size is inline in the block and will need a twitch to fit your modification to contentdiv as well as the side containing element and the overall height/width of the entire block.

#featured .pagination {

    width: 150px;

    float:right; display: block;

}

Its a matter of touching any one CSS size makes them ALL need a twitch.

#featured {

    height: 580px;

    margin: 5px;

    overflow: hidden;

    position: relative;

    width: 660px;

}

including the container for the slider itself.

Thanks, #2 is sorted.

I can see the <div class="contentdiv"> area in the Edit template box but what needs to be changed?

I'm happy to change the whole slider width if necessary

Thank you for reply. I understand the thumb nail adjusting. It's just if we look at the site on a big monitor all is good. If we look at it on a smaller monitor, the thumbs are in the sidebar on the rightside

Also, why can't I get a correct link to my articles? They just keep linking back to the pages main page?
Thank you much

the CSS you are including find:
#featured { for the WHOLE box css
#featured .contentdiv { for the MAIN part
#featured .pagination { for the sidebar
#featured .pagination a img { for the sidebar images
#featured .pagination a img:hover { for the sidebar images hover effects.
the main image size is inline in the block:
<img src="{$r['image']}" style="width:500px; height: 375px" />
EDIT as needed/twitch.

Back again. ;)

Next question; is there an addition that I could make to the script to make the 8 article option display 2 columns of 4 images? If so would anyone have any ideas and where it would be placed?

Thanks!
