Custom forum icons as a default option (in 3.2.0)?

Wouldn't it be cool if he had this as a default option (without having to install it as a mod) ie. be able to assign a custom icon to each subforum? Just thinking out loud. :)

Yes, I'm currently using a mod to accomplish this, but it would be more convenient if IP.Board supported this out-of-the-box.

Agreed.

Thanks,

As this is a feedback / suggestion topic, I'll move it to a more appropriate forum where it will be seen by the developers. :)

Has my full support. :)

3.2 is feature locked though so now it's a matter of wait and see.

Really, this feature has been available as a modification for nearly every forum script on the market since modifications began, yet only one of them (vBulletin, and they added it badly) actually put the thing in the default software. It wouldn't be too hard to code in, and it'd work quite well if it was as simple as the version DawPi made

Just have it so with each forum you add, you get an option to add the URL of an icon to replace the default posts/new posts one on the forum index, and voila, one easy feature that would enhance a ton of forums and make IPB look so much more modern (a lot of modern, somewhat stylish forums use this, as do large forums like Gaia Online).

This has been requested many times over and over again. And I still would love to see this implemented. :)

I would love to see an option of both standard and custom icons for forums.

Get a poll in here.

Be nice to have the option in the ACP

I would love this feature as well!

I can't believe this feature has not been implemented yet.

I upgrade to 3.2 and remade my forum icon edits and other fields of that nature. I think i should post the guide on how i did it so you guys can all have a forum icon and other fields. I have been using this method since 2.3 modding the files and im going to post on how to do it or write up an application/hook to do it for you.

Such a common modification, I don't think it matters or should be default if you'll always be able to do such.

If invision power added in a new feature that allowed you to add custom fields to forums, that would be super!

There's a mod for this:

I would like to see it as default however :) I've always used different icons on individual forums. Don't let phpBB3 beat IPB :P :P

He made it worse for the 3.2 series, in order for you to manage the icons, you have to visit them via the My Apps section which is so annoying that i cannot believe he did that because i need these options when editing the forum and nowhere else... so its very un-practical for me to use that mod and i believe mine is going to be better in the forum sense, not application sense.

This sucks. I am using IP Hosting and they do not allow uploads to ftp

Unless things have changed, you have Cpanel / FTP. Source files are encoded but submitted files in the Marketplace should not contain them. Access details are under your account in the Client Area.

Uh...I found it quite straightforward and easy to figure out ;) In fact I really like the icon control panel over there.

Dont get me wrong, its nice but it needs to be in the forum otherwise there is no point.

It gets the job done, and that's what counts imo ;)
