Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 25, 201114 yr Are these parenthetical prefixes on Marketplace filenames some leftover from the OLD downloads system? I would love to see these all go away.
January 25, 201114 yr It's individual authors who title their resources that way, nothing to do with anything the Downloads system has done to them. You'll have to bug the individual authors to remove them if you don't like them.
January 25, 201114 yr Author personally they are distracting - they don't relate to the download (other than an abbreviation of the company possibly) I'd prefer a standard of "Name version ##.##"

And a few others do the same.
January 26, 201114 yr I've avoided doing so on my own resources. If you want other authors to stop, you'll probably need to bug them personally.
February 9, 201113 yr It's also annoying when you install the application or hook. I go in and modify it's name to remove the prefix. Also with hooks it's extremely annoying when it creates an entirely separate group in settings. I like to have them all under the hooks group. Perhaps there should be some kind of standard when submitting to the marketplace?

Perhaps there should be some kind of standard when submitting to the marketplace? 'Hooks' isn't even a standard group. Any hooks that you installed that put their settings there are just folks who decided to make that their standard.
February 9, 201113 yr It's just branding. It can be confusing, and annoying, I suppose. But it can also be helpful. I look towards certain authors for creating solid products and delivering reliable support. For those authors I trust, the prefix is like a top shelf brand. I can't say there are any current "brands" I automatically shy away from, but there have been in the past. I definitely have some favorites that I will always look into when they appear.
