BlowingWind
From the usage of my site, From my analytics, mobile browser access forms a growing percentage. Market reports bear up the tremendous adoption of 3G data enabled smartphones world wide. The 3.1 mobile skin and iPhone apps were great leap forward. However I am very surprised that 3.2 promised features is totally silent on Mobile. Something that the IPB team may want to consider seriously. Donkerrood
I Agree, last month I got 6,394 visits from mobile devices (which is 12.78% of the site's total). That's an amount that should not be forgotten. Few suggestions for the mobile skin:Added feature: Uploading of attachments (pictures) enabled when posting a reply or adding a new topic. Added feature: Show mod tools by posts and topics. Added feature: Show edit link for posts and topics. Added feature: Add mobile skin to skin generator. Management Matt Posted January 7, 2011 Management Share Posted January 7, 2011 In fairness, we've not gone into a lot of detail on our mobile updates. Needless to say, the mobile skin will be getting an update to ensure that mobile devices can interact with your forum and apps. I use my iPhone daily to access this forum so we're very much aware of its importance.
Donkerrood
Then you certainly know what I'm talking about :D One thing that IMHO should be always have priority over new features is that the skin should comply with (almost) all mobile devices. I am now using both the old and the new Aqua-soft skin, but quite some users complain that their phone doesn't work with the pre-selected skin. Although I like the aqua-soft skin, the compliance issue is a reason why I would switch back to the IP.mobile skin (if it would have the features set out in my previous post ). Very glad that Mobile will be enhanced in 3.2 At our forum, the MOST REQUESTED feature for the mobile skin is to allow readers to update their status. bfarber
To be fair, as well, our blog entry about 3.2 is silent on just about everything outside of a few core focus points. Updating the mobile skin fits nicely under the blanket umbrellas of "Front-End Usability" and "Modernization".
Clickfinity
It's one thing going on at software developers to cover 50 odd different browsers and mobile devices, but shouldn't the mobile devices themselves comply with web standards? You know, try to be compatible with as many web sites as possible? I never use the mobile skin to access my site because I don't need to - I can use the full default skin and do almost everything I can from the laptop / PC so it would be good if the mobile device developers worked on their browsers to add the few missing bits of functionality. That being said - will my members be able to post from their iPads without having to disable RTE in 3.2? Cheers, Shaun :D
