My 3.2 suggestions

Glad to hear about the goals for 3.2! I can't wait. But I do have a few suggestions.

1. Allow custom buttons - I'm not sure if you can or not but from what I've been told by a respected IPB skin designer and coder, it is not possible to have custom buttons. This would add even more uniqueness to custom skins.

2. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here but I still think the "watched" systems need to be improved upon. Almost like combining the "My Content" and the "My watched" would be perfect. Bring me to a page that allows me to see all the threads with new posts in them with the option to view all my watched posts. This page should look very similar to my content where you can click the "view last" button. And also be able to select the threads to "unwatch" them. My whole community is CRAVING a feature just like this. I'm sure you hate it but they miss our vBulletin subscribed threads they were able to view via the User CP. I'm telling you, that is the one feature that is most asked for on my site now that we've moved from vB. Scrap the current watch system and swap with one I just described and you will have a perfect work of art :) Please please please please plllleeeeaaaaassseeee!

3. SEO features - give us the ability to design our own URLs. It's way too late for me right now, but I'm sure people that convert over from vB and have had experience with vBSEO would really like this feature.
----Sort of under this, but could be for IP.SEO - something vBSEO did right was their settings called "Relevant Replacements". This was GREAT for SEO. Allowed you to pull out various things that you thought was important and add header tags to them and then to construct them in a friendly manner. Example:
(h1)Topic Title
You are view TOPIC TITLE in FORUM SECTION. TOPIC TITLE is about [insert first x characters here).

So this helps with bots know more of what the topic is about, you are repeating your keywords AND giving them header tags, and it allows users from a search engine to have a better feel for what the page is as there will be more bolded words in the search results for your site (if done right).

Meh, I hope it's not too soon for this type of thread and I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's feet with these suggestions. I hope this sits well with the staff and the members of the community.

What do you mean by this? There are many "buttons" across IP.Board?

I do like your other suggestions by the way :)

Sorry, I meant to go back and clear that up. I mean for "new thread" or "add reply" buttons. Again, I'm going off of what someone told me. I don't know if he was too lazy to do what I wanted but at the same time, I've not seen any real customized buttons for those.

Eh, you can replace the buttons easily.....like for example from topicViewTemplate

<li><a href='{$displayData['reply_button']['url']}' title='{$this->lang->words['topic_add_reply']}' accesskey='r'>{parse replacement="{$displayData['reply_button']['image']}_icon"} {$this->lang->words['topic_add_reply']}</a></li>

That code can be swapped out for an image button or whatever, it can be styled separately from other buttons as well.

That "respected" skinner was full of it.

While we have intentions of improving watched threads and VNC/search stuff, I'll note now that you can view subscribed threads in the UserCP with IPB as well.

(Just change domain to your own + forum path..)

Yes, I know of that page. I'm not a big fan of it at all. Reasons:
1. It's split up into categories and broken down that way. When you have thousands of posts, this can be cumbersome. From what I stated earlier, if you made this page to have the same/similar layout as "My Content" page had with the ability to unwatch threads, this would be perfect. You then can see what section you've posted in, only the threads with new posts will show up (unless you click the "view all" link), and a box to tick to unwatch. This would be much more streamlined and easier for the end user.

2. Sort of an extension of the first. Since it's broken up into categories, you still have to scroll a way to see all the categories and if there is a new post in it or not. This is also cumbersome if you have a site that has a LOT of sections and you post in the majority of them.

3. I don't like the ability to see within last 30 days, etc etc and the beginning. To make life easier, why not only show the new threads and have a button to view all your watched threads? This can take a huge chunk of your coding out and be much more user friendly (which I believe is what 3.2 build is getting at?).

But from the sounds of it, you guys do not like this idea at all and will never implement an easier system for it :/ Kind of saddens me and my community.

I think your posts make sense, now you have basically three systems:
- the 'watch topic / subscribe to topic'
- my content for posts you have replied to
- the like function.

Would be nice if that would be one page. Don't give up hope yet!

Yeah, but I think if this system were implemented correctly, you wouldn't need the "My Content" anymore.

Could you elaborate more on the like function?

Why exactly would you say that?

We've stated in many threads (and if you re-read my quote, I stated it in this thread) that we have EVERY intention of working on Watched Threads and VNC in the next release.

If you take a look just below the image, you will notice a button - like - on the right side. That's what I meant.

I know where the like button is...are you saying you want a feature that shows you where you were liked last? Or what you liked last? That's what I was getting at.

Just a feeling I've had. I've been suggesting it since I moved over to you guys and I may get a reply or 2 from you guys and then it's dropped. I guess all I was looking for was "that's a good idea" or "yeah, I think we could work something out like that"...just some sort of confirmation I guess :ermm:

Also, what do you guys think of the other suggestions I've made? They would be GREAT SEO options when done properly.

I don't generally reply to suggestion topics with several unrelated suggestions all grouped together. I've said it a million times - post suggestions in their own individual topic. I reply to topics where customers do this, I tend to stay away from topics where the opposite is occurring. :)

Ok...didn't know it worked like that here. I guess I'll make multiple threads from now on. Just thought it would be much neater. Thank you for your time.

It's no problem (hopefully I didn't come off wrong in my reply). It's just much easier for us to work through topics where there is a single suggestion being discussed. When different ideas are mixed up in one topic, we run into several issues:

1) From the forum listing we have no idea what the topic is about without entering it, so we're less likely to review it when we're just skimming ideas initially
2) Several unrelated ideas get grouped together, making it harder to cross-compare similar ideas (i.e. topic a is about tags, topic b is about tags, skins, seo, the member list, and something else....it becomes harder to pull all related topics together to compare the suggestions when some are not about one idea).
3) Relevant discussion from other users ends up scattered. Replies 1-4 may be about idea 1, then 8 replies might be about idea 2, then another reply about idea 1 comes in on page 2 and we don't end up seeing it right away while reviewing the topic)

All in all it's just much much harder for us to organize the suggestions when there are more than one in a topic that are not related. :)
