(M34) Videos System

Quick suggestion for Videos System! The board has a facility to import content via RSS. I use it on one community to import movie trailers from the Apple iTunes website RSS feed into a forum. Would it be possible to have Videos System import new videos into a category via RSS in similar manner?

Not possible currently. I'll see if IPB4 offers any plugin functionality for their rss import function for forums. If not, then this will have to wait until the next version.

@Mike John Great to see that you are working on ips4 release - i hope you will create an demo, when its ready you have a new customer with me too ;)

There's unlikely to be a public demo in the near future. But if you would like I could setup one for you to take a look at when I've got the first beta ready.

That would be great if you provide a link when you have the first previews of IPS 4 video system ready :)
I think there will be more user happy here - you have a great mod with the video system and in ips4 it will be a part of my website ;)

if you pass IPB 4 update and a Video System is not ready what was happening. Can not be used?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Will LiveStream and UStream be supported?

I just had a look at support for media urls today so can't give full details yet. But it does look like any site that supports oEmbed can be included. That should include both the embed and thumbnail generator.

It still looks like the oEmbed sites need to be defined, so I'll probably include some type of area to add more sites.

Hey Mike, on 3.4.7 is it possible to have the global hook show under the shoutbox rather than at the top of the forum?

It depends on where the Shoutbox is hooking into. But first try and use the drag and drop positioning to move it. Open Admin CP > System Tab > Manage Hooks. And use the drag and drop icon for the Videos System Global Hook to position it under the shoutbox's hook.

No effect, in hindsight I should have tried that first :/ but the end result is the same.

This isn't something I need, it looks good as is. However I am confident you will make this work with version 4.0 and when all that is released perhaps have it as an option to have the side bar go up the side of it rather than being locked to being above the sidebar. Just a suggestion, it's a fine piece of work and on a gaming site it works quite well.

The design is somewhat different in IPB 4. I utilize the widgets a lot more rather then a fixed sidebar. But if you have further suggestions for improvement let me know.

@Mike John  at your link with status of mod status upgrade is video system green - do you have a link of the IPS4 video addon to have a look at it ? :-)  thanks in advance

It's beta 1 right now only and may not support an upgrade path to beta 2. I'm just waiting to see what file storage changes are made in IPB 4.0.5 before I do anything else. Once I know what's happening there, I'll be pushing to have a final release out very soon after.

Thanks for the Videosystem for 4.0.

I have the following standard setup:

05-06-2015_09-55-41.thumb.jpg.6f37fcd7fe

In the Videosystem everything looks great - except no Thumbnails.

In the topic created it looks like this

05-06-2015_10-07-38.thumb.jpg.de4a7c41b0

If I edit the post it looks like this (source):

<p><img class="ipsImage" src="http://www.domain.no/1/monthly_2015_06/videothumb_1433489529.thumb.png.7fbc4d5025245e851ced6de0a502f524.png" /></p><p><strong class="bbc">Name:</strong> mine korte fottur<br /><strong class="bbc">Category:</strong> Medlemmenes egne videoer (friluftsliv)<br /><strong class="bbc">Date Added:</strong> 2015-06-05<br /><strong class="bbc">Submitter:</strong> <a href="http://www.domain.no/profile/10401-kjell-iver/">Kjell Iver</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dette er en test</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br /><strong class="bbc"><a href="http://www.domain.no/videos/view-126-mine-korte-fottur/">mine korte fottur</a></strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

I would like to have the video also directly in the topic created - is that possible?

I'm sorry I completed missed this reply, if this is still an issue please post in the IPB4 support topic here.

I must be loosing my site. lol   but i cant find a way to delete videos or change their names. can you tell me where to do this.

See ACP > Community Tab > Videos > Permissions. You'll need to enable group permissions for stuff like edit.

If you can use the IPB4 support topic as it's easier to split support for both versions.

I am having an issue after i save a video after adding it. or editing it. i get the following. any ideas whats going on.

Would be easier if you provide ftp and acp login details so I can troubleshoot this error. Have no confirmed reports like this yet.

I will update the forum IPB 4. How can then do update Video system for IPB 4?

Will I have to do the translation again? Is there a possibility to lose contents of videos and comments? Or everything will be maintained.

You'll need to upload the latest videos.tar file in the admin cp after you've upgraded IPB.

Yes all translations will be lost unfortunately. If you can hold off, I'm just working on the next Videos version that contains some fixes related to missing language files.

OK, I will follow Video support. Thank you.

Hi Mike, I'm quite interested about this product, and I have a bunch pre sale questions for this version for 3.4.X. I thought It's better to ask here so everybody can read them, instead of sending a private message.

#1 Can I add videos inserting an "iframe" html code instead of an url. I think some of my users will need to do it that way in my community for non youtube videos. I imagine that, although possible, no thumbnail will be generated for those videos and those videos will not appear in the global hook.

#2 what does the global hook displays? A thumbnail or the actual video ? Can I play the video in the global hook ( in the community main board) and can I turn it off/on ? or is it just a thumbnail that goes to the video page ?

#3 Is there any way to set/show visible rules to users before posting vídeos ?

Thank you

1) There is a per group option that allows those selected groups to post "embed" codes directly rather then relying on media urls and media tags to auto generate the embed. But I would limit this to only trusted member groups otherwise it opens up the board to potential problems regarding malicious code. Perhaps approval of new videos would help in that regard though. Yes that's correct, thumbnails rely on the media url so would not be generated for embed type videos.

Ideally I would suggest seeing if your non youtube videos can support media tags at all. You would still need to build a thumbnail plugin to grab the thumbnail however.

2) Yes that's correct a thumbnail only of the posted video. Clicking on the thumbnail directs them to the video page where they can watch the embedded video. Playing the video in the global hook should be technically possible but would require some customization to support it.

3) Would you need different rules for each category or just a generic bit of text for every new video? If the later, I should be able to put together a simple template edit for you to add if you need it.

Let me know if you have any more questions, if a demo would help I could set one up for you.

Thank you.

I already purchased Videos and I'm impressed and happy with the product. I think it's going to be a reliable way of keeping users interested in the Community.

Regarding Rules, I noticed that comments for categories are more than enough to set up rules, so everything works according to my needs. I will probably need help to get thumbnails from other video sources, but it's ok for now.
