[ASK] Feature to force member to register after xx minutes

That would kick Google off your site after a short period. People will register voluntarily if you have content worth registering for.

I don't think so...I've seen a lot of sites that use this feature (usually it's vBulletin forum, because they have this feature) & some of it generate more member & didn't kick Google at all, in fact their rank in Google is very high ;)

But thanks for your input :)

Anyone ?

Don't think any such mod exists. Just make your forum member only, that has always kicked up my member stats :P.

Thx Jaggi...

For my site, sometimes I use it to promote something to other people / non-member via Facebook, Twitter etc. So if I make the forum for member only, they (non-member) can't see the promo :(

I saw setting for editing post etc that had time restriction (i.e. I can set that after 5 minutes, member can't edit their own post), so would like to know if there is such setting to allow guest to read forum for some amount of time ;)

Anybody ?

Thanks !

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but as a user who came by your forum to find information on a specific topic... I'd be annoyed to find the information I'm looking for, bookmark it, then come back later to find a message telling me I have to register to view it. As someone who came from Google looking for specific information, I would have no intention of registering unless I needed to ask a question.

If you want to drive up registrations you can open Facebook/Twitter login support. If someone already has an account, it's easier for them just to login using an existing account. It would make them more likely to contribute (on good terms).

I don't agree...

I have come to many VB site where this features is implemented & after going back for 2nd & 3rd time to the site, this feature make me want to register to the site because I think it's important & needed the information there.

About the bookmark thing & find out that it locks, this feature may have time limit on every...let say 5 hours, the seting is reset, so when I bookmarked the site & the day after I visit again, it's not locked, I can view it for let say 5 minutes & off again.

This feature make me wanna be the member of the forum (because I come back more than 2 times) & in the end I contribute to the forum. And that's the main poin..to persuade member to become a member.

Thanks
