When you view users profile, at the bottom is a comment section that other users can type something in. Right now, if you want to reply to what someone else has said you have to make a new comment on your own profile.

I like this, should also include notifying the member of the response.

Profile comments and status updates should be merged, that would fix this issue and it would make more sense than having multiple ways to comment while on a user's profile.
