KT Walrus
The board emails look like they come from the 90's. Most emails from modern sites have both a styled HTML version and the plain text version in the same email. Most people these days use email clients that can show HTML. Anyway, the email templates should be moved into the skin templating system (with templates for the HTML version and other templates for the plain text version). These should also use the language packs for multi-lingual boards.

Unless you are trying to use IPB as a marketing solution included, there shouldn't be a need. Seriously, prettifying the activation email ? Emails from modern sites, Amazon sends all order information emails as just plain ttext, they send promotional crap as html pretty, newegg same thing, what else, barnes and nobles, same thing, The only thing I have in my inbox that are actually HTMLified are the long winded newsletters which none of the IPB mails are. KT Walrus
Obviously I don't agree. I've signed up for several larger social networking sites recently and all emails were professionally formatted in HTML/CSS and it gave a good impression of the site. I'm also thinking that the subscription emails that contain a copy of the post or message would present much better in HTML. Right now, IPB sometimes doesn't translate the text of the post back into plain text too well. Anyway, I see no reason that the email templates not use the skin templating system and support stylized HTML emails along with a text-only version for those email clients that don't want to view HTML emails. If there was demand for plain text emails, it would be simple enough to create an admin setting to choose the type of emails, plain or stylized. TCWT
I don't agree. Remember, more and more are using smartphones to check email. I'd rather it use plain text. Fancy emails won't make or break you.
Painted Horse
You could always make it a member selectable option (ie: "Send me notification mails in HTML or plain text"). I know I see this option on a lot of websites that I subscribe to - they even usually include a link to change the type in the particular email's fine print signature. For that matter, you could make it an administrator option also to force it to be one way or another for all users regardless of their settings (like you can already do with the other notification options). GodForum.com
I agree, we should have options for both plain and Full html ... also it would be nice to have it grow into a glitzy newsletter manager system.
