Guest
Lately things like the new skinning utility have been taking some of the tedium out of doing development with IP products. But actually setting up an instance in development mode to do work is not simple. What I would like to see is a way to install a development setup and simply tell it I want development mode rather than a whole bunch of fiddly changes needing to be manually made to do what could/should be done by an inbuilt utility. Apart from learning the new way of coding for v3.x the hassle of setting up a working dev system has just left me not wanting to play. I know I am lazy but something like this should be automated that's what computers do best Ta, Larry
TestingSomething
I agree. Too much to keep track of as it is to get it set up properly. Sometimes i forget to update some directories when a new version is released and so I accidentally work in_dev with some outdated skin files, for example. Josh
We'll probably do something in the future to make it a little easier to work with IN_DEV mode. For now though, we do have documentation to help you setup IN_DEV: http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/official.html?record=
Management Matt Posted May 19, 2010 Management Share Posted May 19, 2010 This will be included in beta 3: It sorts out the skins and langs without the need for all that manual fiddling around.

TestingSomething
Thanks very much. :) Now all I have to do is have a tool for my brain to remember what I recently did. I've switched methods back and forth between editing xml files and editing cache files and then updating the board accordingly. I try to stick with directly editing xmls now though so technically I don't often use in_dev once I've already got some files created for it. When I edit cache files I sometimes go weeks not working on an app and then forget if I ever updated the master skin files.
