Photo cropping

I'd like to see photo cropping implemented, especially for avatar/profile photos.

Basically, you could use a script like http://www.defusion.org.uk/code/javascript-image-cropper-ui-using-prototype-scriptaculous/ (there are others out there too) which would present the user with a crop photo page after the upload, but before the form is processed and the avatar/profile photo is saved.

I'd also like to see the cropper as an option on photo attachments that I have uploaded so I can adjust a photo to best fit in the topic. This cropper could also have the ability to shrink the dimensions of big photos for display while keeping the originals intact for downloading.

I think the user should crop avatars or photos themselves before uploading. There's no need to add complexity to uploading these.

As for image attachments all I want is the ability to set maximum resolution and maximum file size.

Not everyone runs a graphics / 3d forum. Some people think it will auto crop a nice crop :P

I've posted a job to have a modder code this for me in the Modifications forum. The people who use my board aren't comfortable using a graphics program to crop to the proper dimensions (especially the concept of pixels is daunting).

The beauty of having cropping/resizing all built into IPB is that the user just has to select the area of the uploaded file they want to be their avatar/profile photo and hit the "Crop & Save" button and it is done. No matter that they uploaded huge JPGs that came directly from their digital camera. The crop & save function will scale it to fit the size of an avatar...
