joelle
What would you think if the open comment box fields would be replaced with a reply link which shows an ajax drop down box when clicked. The purpose is a better status updates overview without disturbing the viewers eye if he doesn't want to reply to each single status update. Thanks for commenting your thoughts about it. :) Check out the screenshot for a detailed view: [url=" " alt="" class="ipsImage" width="1000" height="562">
.Immortal
Pretty much like how Facebook implemented their status comment system. It would also have the advantage of giving more screen real estate to the statuses as the comment boxes are just taking up space. And to add to Joelle's comment about disturbing the viewers eye if he doesn't want to reply to each single status update. A person wouldn't be even able to reply to all of them at the same time since each status has its own comment button. Just a waste of screen real estate if you ask me. Invisiοnist
I agree with the above! This really is a *must* for this feature imo. It looks way more professional to have it with ajax instead of the bulky text box for every update. I hope they will agree
Andrej
Yeah, a AJAX drop-down reply box would remove those unused text boxes. But... i don't really mind those boxes under each status.

But... i don't really mind those boxes under each status. It doesn't look too bad with a profile without customizations but when you do add a background, the profile info is moved all together in the center. The box sizes does get justified accordingly but the boxes make the profile looked cluttered up imo.
joelle
An other idea would be that the comment box of the latest status update would be shown as it is but the other ones hidden with an ajax dropdown functionality. The latest status update seems always to be the most important one which users might want to comment as easily as possible. The same could be applied to "All Updates". What do you think? joelle
While we are the profile page there is an other thing which caught my eye. Why not save some space when irrelevant content is shown. For example when users don't fill out their age, birthday and gender. Why not hide that information if users don't want to give that data? Unless this feature would mean some extra queries which could slow down the site.

joelle
Here is an other great way (idea from an other site, not facebook ;) ) when to show and not to show comment boxes. ^^
Tanax
While we're on profile. Maybe I just missed it, but how do you get to a member's blog(s) from his profile? You can click the blog tab, but that only shows the most recent entries. How about having a link or a list of all the blogs a member is owning? Josh
The main reason we do it that way is to maintain consistency across profiles, so that they all have the same basic information in the same place. However, we've already started to get away from that, since we do hide other profile fields with no information, such as the various messenger services. I like the idea myself, but can't promise it will change :)

Noles
Is it me, or does the 'Add a Comment' Link on the forum home and profile not work since the update this morning? Adding comments to people's status? Works fine for me.
glorify
Thanx. Using Firefox and it takes me to the top of the page. Maybe I'll clear my cache and go again.
