Dlf Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I doubt this is possible & or would be done, but here's an idea as I was reading the recent interview of Matt: Different software packages depending on the hardware -- basically multiple IPB packages for the different (base) server configuration. Meaning one for Apache servers, one for the others (that mainly get used) -- I mostly just know Apache. Just an idea:P
bfarber Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 It's not necessary and I see no benefit to this option. You can already install IPB on Apache or nginx, for example (as well as most other webserver software packages).
Dlf Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 One possible thing is, if there is a apache version (& it works only on apache) than couldn't you (all) work on speed for the (indivual) version?
bfarber Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 In reality, it would slow us down significantly attempting to maintain multiple versions of the board with minor operating system and webserver specific tweaks. It would not speed anything up at all, development wise, and there are very few server-specific functions that we would ever possibly make use of.
