already shown in the footer of each forum ;)

That's not the same as showing the number of users browsing each forum on the index.

Edit: why remove the option to go to a page number of a thread in topic view? :(

It's the vision of the end of days.
I will try to think about some useful features.

talking about that, I would love to see a true bilingual board where you would get English forums if you chose English, and if you chose other language, you would see yet other forums based on the language you chose. it's like two boards in 1 or maybe more.

Another suggestion:

Spam User

Now when is someone marked as Spam User, there are possibilities:

[*]Do nothing [*]Disable Post/PM permission [*]Disable Post/PM and unapprove posts [*]Unapprove posts, empty profile and ban account
Well, there could be another option (move to specified group). Although last option (... ban account) is good possibility but I want to exclude those users from Members group. When I send bulk mail to Members I don't want to send mail to Spammers. They are banned but still in Members group.

I'm still not entirely sure why there is a need for a banned members group as well as this new banned member status. It's all very confusing.

Very good idea :)

Yes, you're right, it's confusing. When Spammer is banned via moderators menu you cannot see if he/she is really banned, that account is still in Members group. Only in ACP you can see that account is banned. But not on board.

I use the banned members group when I want all other members to see that the member is banned. I use the new method when I do not want any member to notice that the member is banned.
It works very effectively.

This has got to be my biggest complaint about IPB3.

With IPB 3, Administrators are protected from receiving warning strikes, from being banned and basically from receiving any kind of punishments. They are protected from such restrictions. However, there's one problem. Administrators can still see their posted messages and topics subjected to being "Reported." Shouldn't the Admin usergroup be protected from having their posts "reported" on by other members? I think that if this is set by default that there should be some way to disable it for certain groups.

I disagree. Let's say I was posting a reply to pre-sales question and I mistakenly typed that a license costs $14.99 instead of $149.99 - reporting the post would be the obvious thing to do so that it can be corrected.

Possible, and I agree with you, Mark. However, most of us run medium sized boards that aren't dependent on a business structure, or rather a good number of IPB run sites are. I just think that the feature should be something that can be turned on or off, depending on the preferences of the Admin. I would like to see a feature in the next version that allows the Root Admin to toggle that feature on or off, according to usegroup.

Mark, do you think this would be something that could be added?

You can configure who can submit reports, but not who reports can be submitted about.

I can't say whether it will or will not get added, I just personally don't see the point ;)

this is why :)

It may be confusing to you at first, but it actually gives you more control. We thought about removing the legacy banned group, but determined there would be sufficient interest in being able to manage members in more than one manner. Different strokes for different folks and all that. ;)

Please get back topic icons in forum view!!!
I'm really disappointed that IPB 3.x lost that feature.
In my forum topic icons are much appreciated both by mods and users because they differentiate posts "at a glance".
So I prefer don't update to 3.x and remain with 2.x.
Really bad getlost.png

Since so few people actually use them, I don't agree with shoving it back in again after they shoved it to the side due to lack of use.

But, if you want to add it back yourself, go read http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/articles.html?record=449

Thanx Mat!!! I'll try the mod.
Anyway I think missing topic icons in the forum view is a lost for IPB.
May be IPS should be provide an option to turn on topic icon display.
Probably most important IPS should be provide any examples and/or more representative icons since that the icons of ipb 2.x/3.x are almost useless.
Ciao

Something I would like to see: Report Center

Reports under review to display differently in the admin bar.
Current: Mod Tools: IP Lookup - Manage Announcement - 1 Active Reports

This 1 active report is under review, personally I would like to only see new reports listed.
Maybe make under review not disply or add a Under Review Reports counter?
So you'll have something like:
Mod Tools: IP Lookup - Manage Announcement - 3 Active Reports, 1 Reports Under Review
or
Mod Tools: IP Lookup - Manage Announcement - 1 Reports Under Review

I am an IP.noob (I am getting immense mileage out of that one) fresh from vBS. My site is a mid sized (1m post) site. I have just spent the last few hours with my mod team and we have come up with this list. Some are duplicates (yes, I read all 18 freaking pages), but all important to how my mods are used to working.

- Soft delete. This is mega important to our site as it allows us to comment and undelete if needed. Also allows users to delete without us going "wha?". This isn't just for threads, but posts as well.

- Reputation comments. This is missed right now. People LOVE to get thanked and know who did it. Maybe even an option to make it public so the + rep and comment could show in an activity stream and/or profile. That would be win.

- Ajax quick reply. With how jaxed up IPB is, would have thought this would be a given. Saves a lot of bandwidth and time + IMO it creates a more user fluid environment. On that note, I do like how vB4's quick reply would pop up under the post you were replying to. That was a nice improvement in usability.

- Delete as spam - this is a much missed option that allowed us to delete a thread inline, ban the spammer and delete all their other threads all in 1 go.

- A 'whats new' portal page that will give you a snapshot in configurable blocks of whats new before focusing on specific areas of the site. I am kind of assuming this can be done with IP.Content, but haven't gotten a chance to try yet. This could also serve as a member home page. Maybe not configurable per user, but configurable via admin - that would be very hot.

- A contact page? I sort of assumed there would be a contact us page. Didn't realise until reading this thread there wasn't

- Easier way to view watched content

- Easy way to manage a 'global' sidebar.

- Swap between editors via ajax

- Inline edit via ajax

- When using the RTE editor, be able to select a block of text and use the list button to turn it into a list.

- Another user mentioned a vB mod called 'Live topic'. That was very swish and popular. The idea made the forums (and other areas governed by comments) very interactive.

I saw a few other suggestions that I have had experience with so I thought I would share. Clearly this is only my opinion and what didn't work for me could work for 99.9% of other people. I just thought I would share my experience through running a fair sized board as well as working on a lot of other vB sites. Take it with a pinch salt.

- Social Groups. We tried social groups and it just didn't work. At least don't use vB as an example as I honestly do not know of 1 vB site where social groups are a success. With some more thought I am sure they could have been made more prevalent in the community.

- I have 6 moderators on my site. I don't think any of them have ever used the ModCP.

- I don't know of many vB sites where tags have really worked well. Its one of those things that everyone wants, but no one really seems to use. In order for tags to be effective, they need to be used consistently. Forum users are not consistent with tag entry. There are mods on vB that helped with this, but then you end up with a lot of superfluous tags too.

Anyhooo - Hope this helps. I may be back with more as we play more :D

This can be done via IP.Content and via the built in Portal, depending on your specific needs.

Can you clarify this one? What needs to be made easier exactly?

- Inline edit via ajax

You can already edit posts inline using AJAX. Or were you meaning something else?

[quote name='The Geek' date='08 January 2010 - 03:41 PM' timestamp='1262983310' post='1897040']

It already works this way. I use that functionality all the time in fact.

ok

tbh, the only place I have found my watched topics is on the forumdisplay page.

Yup - odd, it was a request from a mod.

It already works this way. I use that functionality all the time in fact.

Doesn't work in IE8 for me. Enter a bunch of lines, highlight them and click one of the list options. I get a <li> under my selection

Thanks!

1. More control over where to display avatars and photos, and the same options for each one.

For example avatars should have per usergroup limits like photos do. Photos should have a remotely hosted image option. And there should only be SIMPLE edits needed to replace photos with avatars and vice versa.

2. Better control over permissions for super moderators, no more of those hard coded permissions.
