PrefeX
Hi all IPB beta users, I got some questions about ipb b5 that I've still not figured out, but I'm sure you have ;)When warning members, checking the box don't put them in the new banned usergroup. Same goes from acp, although there you can choose to move him to another usergroup... What's then the use of this default membergroup if they don't get moved there unless you do it manually afterwords? The mark user as spam don't hide the users PMs or posts as default... What's then the point of tagging the account as a spammer? When using OpenID or Facebook Connect, does the user have to create a dorumuser manually first, with forum password and everything, or is this created automaticly when he tries to log in using the OpenID account directly on the forum? I got some more questions, but they slipped away when my mind was wandering

What's then the use of this default membergroup if they don't get moved there unless you do it manually afterwords? IPB3 features a new "Banned" account status that does not require the user to be moved to the banned group. We have left in the old banned group for backwards-compatibility and because some people prefer to ban members using this method, but the new method (which simply sets a flag on their account) is the new "default". The mark user as spam don't hide the users PMs or posts as default... What's then the point of tagging the account as a spammer? There are settings for this under Security and Privacy in the ACP you need to change. When using OpenID or Facebook Connect, does the user have to create a dorumuser manually first, with forum password and everything, or is this created automaticly when he tries to log in using the OpenID account directly on the forum? I got some more questions, but they slipped away when my mind was wandering  The account will be created for them automatically. We've simply added some config options in the even the user does already have an account so that they can associate an existing account with the external one. Connor T
Or a feature or tool to dump the group of our choice (EX Banned group) into the new banned status. Seems it looks better.
bfarber
Does this mean that once the old banned group has 0 members, we can removed the old group 'banned' and its associated banned mask? Yup. Or a feature or tool to dump the group of our choice (EX Banned group) into the new banned status. Seems it looks better.update members set member_banned=1 where member_group_id=5 Be sure your banned group id is 5 before running. Can't really see the need for a tool for such a request. Some people may want to have the user in a separate banned group - this way they are identifiable, removed from the member list, can be pruned based on user group, and so forth. Some, on the other hand, may not want anyone knowing when a user is banned. Each admin runs their site differently, so having both options available provides for admins to select how they want to handle banning users.
