Posted April 15, 200916 yr I'm having a tough time finding topics on the forum via the default "Sort by Relevance" setting. I almost always have to click "Sort by Date" Anyone else having this issue? I would love to see a setting in the User CP so that I can set it to default "Sort by Date" instead. Just a thought for the future.....

Hehehehe, I was just thinking about this exact same thing while searching for probably the same thing you were searching for. :P Like you suggested maybe the Sort By Date could be added as a default somewhere in the in the ACP or UCP... Of course I don't know if that would create more overhead...
April 15, 200916 yr and maybe some sort of User CP setting to get rid of the "Also in this topic". I'm the kind of person that doesn't mind skimming a topic to find the info i want. I just need the search to find the topic in the first place. It's like information overload with all the "Also in this topic" repeating over and over.

I just need the search to find the topic in the first place. It's like information overload with all the "Also in this topic" repeating over and over. There's an ACP setting to enable this functionality, and when enabled a checkbox on the advanced search form. This does add a lot of overhead to searching, however, so we have the functionality turned off (you have to do a group by on the posts table if you search posts but then want to group them as topics, and a group by on a posts table with millions of posts is a dangerous thing). Smaller sites should be able to use this feature, but I wouldn't recommend larger sites enabling this. Of course if you use Sphinx it should be a moot point.
April 17, 200916 yr I am using the sphinx modification on 2.3.x and now that it is officially supported will continue using it when 3 rolls along. :)

April 18, 200916 yr Of course if you use Sphinx it should be a moot point. I'm curious, does IP.Board 3.0 support the latest version of Sphinx (which appears to be 0.9.9)? ..Al
April 21, 200916 yr I'm curious, does IP.Board 3.0 support the latest version of Sphinx (which appears to be 0.9.9)? ..Al As I recall josh developed the support using .9.9
April 21, 200916 yr As I recall josh developed the support using .9.9 Great, thanks. :) I wonder if the recently released 0.9.9-rc2 version will work.. ..Al
April 22, 200915 yr There's not that many changes between the versions. ;) True, but you never know when something may break. I'll certainly try the latest version and if it doesn't work I'll back down to the previous version. ..Al
