BryanH Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I know IPS doesn't hand out release dates. But would it be appropriate to guess that IPB 3.0 FINAL would come out before June 1st? It's somewhat time sensitive to my site, and I'll have to plan otherwise if not.
ᴡᴅツ Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I know IPS doesn't hand out release dates. But would it be appropriate to guess that IPB 3.0 FINAL would come out before June 1st? It's somewhat time sensitive to my site, and I'll have to plan otherwise if not. Of 2010? Maybe. Of 2009? No.
bfarber Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Of 2010? Maybe. Of 2009? No. Not sure why you'd say that. To be honest, we can't say for sure when final will be released.
ᴡᴅツ Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Not sure why you'd say that. To be honest, we can't say for sure when final will be released. I know. I was just following the pattern of release dates. If I counted correctly it will be June 1st in 45 days. Judging from past release patterns, I don't think Beta 5 can be released, tested, re-introduced as Beta 6/RC 1 with subsequent testing of the product prior to full release before June 1st.
ethan526 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I for one would love to see the next release be IP.Board 3.0.0 MonkeyChicken, just for the fun of it.
Adriano Faria Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 It must be released in 1 and half month. Next week, I think we'll have Beta 5... who knows if we gonna have Beta 6. RC1 and RC2.. at least 15 days for each one... maybe more.
Rheddy Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 First, before I go any further, IPS has been doing an excellent job at the production for IPB forum software. Secondly, IPS has done a pretty good job at keeping the Beta releases on a time-release schedule. Third, Beta 5 has been in secret testing for what seems like forever. Finally, if there is a Beta 6, more than likely, it will go into private testing. Some are begining to think that maybe the testing phase of the Betas are being tested to death and if there is a RC phase, then forget about hitting that pre-June release. Despite being happy with the IPB software, the reluctance to allow to Beta 5 testing to the public is really going to drag out the beta testing for the new version. Not only that, but if it takes a few weeks for Beta 6, it's going to take even longer for the RC stage. At this point, I have serious doubts that IPS can even release IPB 3 Final before June. Not only that, but IPB 3 will be lucky if it manages to hit a fall release. What I think has happened is that IPS has shifted into 'optimistic' mode in regards to the new version and it's being tested to death. When Beta 5 released, it's going to be in testing for at least two weeks. If a 6th Beta is released, you're talking about 2-3 weeks of private testing and then more weeks of public testing. This isn't even mentioning the RC testing. With five weeks left before June 2009 hits, IPS won't hit that release date they've strongly hinted at.
Ryan H. Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Given how long it's been, are there any plans to refresh beta five with the latest fixes before its release?
Graeme S. Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 You all seem a bit pessimistic. Bugs are limited. Each new version has a few, but let's be honest, there are a lot fewer bugs now than when we started. Everyone cheer up. :)
boon79 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 They seem to be working on weekends too, so I guess we'll have beta5 soon. :)
Adriano Faria Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 No one is saying that they aren't doing a great job! But it's just a fact, based on last betas. Before June, I really don't think that we gonna have IPB3.
Energizer Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 For weeks, there is no news and more news for IPB 3 and the current state of things. I think that's not OK! This kind of lack of communication bothers me a lot!

Rheddy Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I realize that my post may sound a little on the bad side, but the last update on IPB was way back in March when IPB 3 Beta 4 was announced. Many here are quite correct. The lack of information or communication from IPS and the fact that the fifth Beta still hasn't been released just seems to be too much overcompensation. The thing is that there have been private testing on the 5th Beta with no word on when it will be released for public testing. You would think that customers would get first crack before the open public testing for B5. If there is a B6, you can honestly forget about that June date. I just think there is too much caution on the part of IPS in regards to the release.
Mark Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 The gap between beta 4 and beta 5 being so large was due to two reasons: first off, almost the entire of the "to do" list was cleared out (which of course needed to be done before RC) and it went through our QA procedure (which of course also needed to be done before RC so the feedback from the QA team could be implemented and tested). These two things have been no secret (and have been stated many times on these forums), but they make for a pretty boring announcement ;)
Willis! Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 The release date doesn't really bother me.. IPB3 is shaping up to be a very nice release, and with all this testing it should also be quite a solid performer with few bugs. :)
The Pi Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hey, at least there are fewer skin bugs than code bugs now. That must be a good sign.
Jimi Wikman Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I look forward to try the Beta 5 and start poking the database a bit :)
vesperala Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Though I'm no developer but beta 4 and 5 seems relatively stable. beta 5? this mean someone tested already beta5? is not in our download area, as customers... how is possible?
Jimi Wikman Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 beta 5? this mean someone tested already beta5? is not in our download area, as customers... how is possible? I think they mean that this board works well which is Beta 5 :)
Adriano Faria Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 It is in QA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_assurance ) for at least 15 days.
Alex Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Don't know where you got 15 days from, but yes it is currently in QA.

Adriano Faria Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I mean, IPS Staff testing... There's a bug report from you and AndyF reported on Apr. 02... so, 17 days testing.
