Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted March 21, 200916 yr Currently, in IPB 2 when you get an email notification. The subject is a generic there is a new topic notification. It would be very useful to actually have the topic title included in the subject header. This will help: 1. Provide distinction between each email notification. 2. Allow threading locally by email clients. 3. Match a very useful feature other leading boards already have had for more than a few previous releases. 4. Improve overall experience.
March 24, 200916 yr Still no link to unsubscribe from thread at the bottom of the email. :( That would also, be an option that would be useful. 1. Reduces users fumbling around in the interface to do a simple task of unsubscribing. 2. one click action. 3. Reduces admin emails regarding the topic. (Lets face it. If users bump into a way within 3 steps they are going to send an email)

March 24, 200916 yr But in 3.0, one only has to click on the link in the email to read the post and then click Stop Watching while in the topic. Version 2.3.6 had a circuitous path to achieve the same task.

Version 2.3.6 had a circuitous path to achieve the same task. Closer to the one click option but so much better to have it embedded in the email. Since this would assistance the smart phone user. Since not everyone has the iphone pinch and expand option to target the unwatch button.
March 24, 200916 yr I prefer it this new way. Having a link in the email would be of no value if the member is not logged on. Heck, a lot of my new registrants do not make use of the one-click verification, but prefer to cut and paste the two values at validation time. I cannot explain it and have given up trying.
March 25, 200916 yr I'm not opposed to adding a link necessarily. It's just not there presently, and not a priority with the 1000000000 other things we have to finish up before we can release. ;)

It's just not there presently, and not a priority with the 1000000000 other things we have to finish up before we can release. ;) Although, it may not be a priority understandably so. But with some relatively simple modifications it will help us convert those die hard people that are trying to cling to email. With these options added it will help ween them off emails as a communication means and contribute content to the forum which turn will grow IPB user base. Furthermore they will take what they've learned and request that implementation on their local communities and projects. Additional Related Request for email replacement/collaboration tool: 1. Unsubscribe link.--Deletion 2. Reply to this Link. -- Reply all 3. View thread (already included) -- View Message 4. Start a New Thread (from the forum this email came from) -- compose a new message

View thread (already included) -- View Message 4. Start a New Thread (from the forum this email came from) -- compose a new message #2 - There may be other replies generated by the time the recipient gets around to replying. I prefer they log on and read ALL news posts before blindly replying. #4 - This is an invitation to duplication of threads. The member should log on and review the topics before starting a new thread blindly. My general attitude is that if there are too many links in an email, it would confuse the non-computer-literate member. It could also awaken some spam triggers. I believe in the KISS method.
