sparc Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Looks kind of bare on the right side of the main forum index as you scroll down. Are there going to be more widgets to fill in the gap? (in addition to the Recently Added Topics and Watched Content) is widgets the right term? not sure what IPS calls them.
TrixieTang Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 They're hooks, and even if IPS doesn't add any more default ones I'm sure modders will make more for you to download and use.
Strike X Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 It would be nice IPB to provide official widgets (hooks) list. Just like what Vista did lol.
Martin A. Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 They have more then enough work at the moment, and I personally would like then to concentrate 100% on IP.Board (and the official modules), rather then making hooks.
Alex Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 As far as I know, a few coders have already made their own and submitted them to the resource site.
sparc Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 thanks, i found some hooks on the resource site: http://resources.invisionpower.com/index.php?appcomponent=downloads&showcat=106 _________________________________________ I can see that this isn't really a priority for IPS right now, but one or two more official hooks for the main index to fill in the hole would be nice. I'm thinking at worst case I can just fill it in with something like google adsense.
Martin A. Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Or just use a 3rd party hook? In difference with 2.3, it'll only take you 2 minutes to install a hook. Half of that time is just getting logged in to ACP. As far as I know, a few coders have already made their own and submitted them to the resource site. And once the application installer bugs are fixed, there will probably be a two-digit number of various applications out within a week.
bfarber Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Not everyone is even going to want to have the sidebar, so we didn't feel it prudent to spend too much time writing up hooks. We've put out a few to help people understand the system and get started, but for the first release we won't likely have more hooks. Note - we do have a "top posters of the day" hook available with the release you could install if you wanted, that is not installed by default. The query to retrieve these top posters, however, is not overly resource friendly, so we didn't feel it wise to have it installed/enabled by default. If your site isn't too big, however, you should be ok installing it.
