Michael Trimm
Hi Everyone, I don't know about you, but I would love to see video responses to topics and threads. I would like to see IP.Board have the capabilities that Facbeook and YouTube have that allow you to record a video directly from your webcam and upload it. The board would obviously have to allow a or tag to allow a flash player plugin as a response. I think this feature would be very useful to larger orgainzations who have discussions that are either lengthy or personal. It's easier for somebody to just say what they want to say in words, than ramble typing. What do you think?
bfarber
I think it's acceptable that you simply use an existing service for the recording and just embed your response using the built in media tag to your post. ;) I don't think it's realistic or likely that IPB will allow direct video recording (the vast majority of our users wouldn't have the server capability to support it anyways). Now, you could of course install some other software to your server to allow for this functionality, and integrate it with IPB somehow. But I don't see IPB supporting this directly. Cairns
This is available on most servers, mine allows me to stream video, but why would I? It eats up my bandwidth and disc storage, much better to let YouTube do the work.
bfarber
No, streaming video, really, can be done from ANY server (unless your host doesn't want you to). You don't need special software for that. He's asking for us to allow recording of live webcam feeds from a user's computer. This would likely require an ActiveX, Flash, or Java plugin to be developed to do so, and a ton of work on the server end to save/compress/etc. the actual video that the browser plugin feeds in. For the relatively small number of users who would even be able to support such a thing on the server side, I doubt this would be the best way to spend our time. We'll see what kind of demand there is, I suppose.
