IPB License

I'm confused over which license I now have and which I must purchase...if I have to.

My site has used the Invision software since 2003. I purchased the site from the previous owner in January 2005, and everything was transferred over to my name. When the license changes were happening, I was very busy and any information emailed to me was confusing and I had no time to come to the board to read about it in order to figure it out. The license then automatically renewed for $25, cheaper than I previously had to pay. I didn't think anything of it and never noticed a difference and have been able to download upgrades whenever I needed to, although I often wait a long time after their release so others can find the bugs so I don't create a mess on my large board. I think I've used support for the software twice in all the time I've had it since I often just scoured the forums or did a Google search about a particular problem and was able to find the needed information to fix things myself without having to bother the techs.

On Friday, I had my site migrated over to an Invision dedicated server. I see that the board software is part of this server package. I'm wondering which license this includes. Also, my license, which is a Standard according to the invoices paid, just renewed last month on the 11th. Am I still under that one?

I just attempted to download a skin and the message returned was: We're sorry, but you cannot download files from our Download Manager. If you are seeing this message, it is because you do not hold an active IPB license. If this is a mistake, please contact an administrator. Otherwise, why not show your support for IPB and purchase a license?

If you hold a perpetual license for the software, you need only purchase the yearly support option to gain full access to this site.

I'm a little confused. Am I not showing my support for IPB by paying $280 a month for the dedicated server and software it says it includes?

I looked in the client area, but the only license purchase options it lists are the Standard and the Business (posted below), neither one mentioning use of the boards and being able to download skins. I tried to call, but get an answering machine. This isn't an emergency, so I didn't want to bother anyone with a ticket and figured someone on the board could give me an answer fairly quickly.

Thank you for replying, Morrigan. :)

I went back to try again and noticed I wasn't logged in, even though my log in sticks here.

Silly things like this is why I tend to not want to bother them with tickets. It's usually almost always the user doing something dingy, wasting their time.

Sorry for posting this thread!

Don't be sorry for asking for help. In many cases, yes, it can be user error. However, it could be something different as well, and things won't be resolved unless you ask for the help.

When posted appropriately, I have yet to find an upstanding member of this community that isn't willing to help out, and Morrigan happens to be one of them.

Ah, so they're bored, huh? Well, I do have an overload issue that has been plaguing my site for many years. I thought moving to a new dedicated server with a new hosting company would fix it, but although that helped a great deal, the overload issue is not gone. The owner and techs from the old hosting company blamed the IPB software for years. I finally switched to Invision hosting when my site was down more than it was up. This is an important time for my site, so I can't have it down all the time! People were canceling their paid subscriptions.

When we moved over to Invision, my homepage stopped updating (php which uses the forums tables to show latest topics, etc.), and Jason found it was inefficient coding (causing errors) that php 5 does not let slip by like the other versions did. He fixed it! :) I really thought that was the root of all our server overloads and was thrilled! I would have kissed him if he were here!

But, unfortunately, last night during the debate, the site overloaded and was down for most of it.

This thing drives me crazy and irritates my members. I'd love a solution.

So, tell me, are they bored enough for this? :P

lol, well you see...our techs can only officially support our software. However, being hosted with us if you submit a ticket, who knows. Jason does go way above and beyond sometimes. Or it's possible our hosting department *may* be able to identify which script is causing the problems, even if they can't fix it for you.

Actually, since migrating over on Friday, I've been in contact with Blake and Jason, and now Josh is dealing with the overload issue from last night. All have been very helpful. You guys have great customer service! Thank you! :)

This overload issue is just a weird pain in the butt thing that has no patterns one can really work with, so I can't blame anyone for not resolving it. 1300 members viewing or just 12, all possible functions and features disabled or all on....makes no difference to this overload thing. Actually, the overloads usually happen the most when hardly any members are on the board. LOL! It's probably something really stupid that is overlooked. *shrug*

I just thought I'd mention it here while trying to be cute about the bored comments.:P Never know who's reading and who may have had the same issue and resolved it. :)
