Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted August 21, 200816 yr Please for the love of Cthulhu don't make the reputation system that you mentioned would be in IPB 3 point based... Usually a "reputation system" has point values attached, member 1 repped member 2, now member 2 has 1 rep point, the whole points aspect from what I've seen always leads to "rep whoring", members thinking they're better because they have more "rep points". and a whole bunch of other crap. There have been alternatives to "reputation systems", and a lot work better. One example is a "thanks system", you can thank posts, but no points involved. Personally though, I'd like to suggest that IPB 3's system be more like eBay's feedback system, you can leave a comment on a member's post, it can be positive, negative, or neutral (I also suggest the option to disable negative and neutral if you don't want those used), also an option for usergroups to be able to view feedback on a member or not. Basically something kind of like eBay's system... because honestly, anything like vB's system is crap... so please... PLEASE do not have a rep system like vB's in IPB 3, and please don't have numbers of any kind involved in rep... <_<
August 21, 200816 yr I like the thanks mod, even though I don't use it. I also hate points and numbers in rep, too.

August 21, 200816 yr I think a reputation system is best left as a modification, or at least option. Hopefully it wont be automatic in IPB3.
August 21, 200816 yr We'll be announcing all the details of the reputation system in the next week or two. :)
August 22, 200816 yr We'll be announcing all the details of the reputation system in the next week or two. :) I'm going to give you a -1 rep. :3 Maybe the rep system can be made fully custom without a mod, like BBcode.
August 22, 200816 yr Maybe the rep system can be made fully custom without a mod, like BBcode. Not sure what you mean by fully custom? Can you explain a bit more?
August 22, 200816 yr Not sure what you mean by fully custom? Can you explain a bit more? Think he means he hopes it will be flexible, that it can be edited to your needs, and even used as a thanks system. PS. NEG REP ME!
August 22, 200816 yr I know you aren't answering questions on the rep system as you are announcing details later but I'd like to suggest this in addition: As others have said in this post people can be rep whores by seeing their rep. I would like to see an option to reset all rep (so I could do it on a monthly basis) and allow all members to utilize but only certain staff members able to see it. It would help me immensely in a MotM "voting" each month because then I could tell which members were giving the helpful kind feedback and which were not. I could also remove rep for breaking rules easier. :) One other thing that would be nice is a flood control for it as well and choice on whether or not a member can vote for themselves.
August 24, 200816 yr Why do lots of you think that IPS makes features without off buttons. lol. By now you should know nearly every other component on your forum is optional. but the enable button is what makes it amazing. So please stop saying don't do this or that. just turn it off if you don't like it, some of us would like certain features.
August 25, 200816 yr we will like to see BETTER points/reputation system too It HELPS a lot when stimulating members to join interactions with each other and also increase nice articles We could then have "prizes" for those who have highest points of year a side note? why there is no OFF option for calendar?
