Kfir
If the admin turns on the "must confirm email" option, then users should not be registered until after confirming their email. They shouldn't show up anywhere- memberlist, their profile shouldn't be available, they shouldn't appear in the 'welcome newest member' bit. etc. I saw it on the vBulletin suggestion board, and I thought I must come up with it here. Wondering Soul
Well IP.Board has the main part of this. It doesn't allow them to do anything until they validate their email address (if you have email validation on). You can even control all the settings for the group that they get put into, ie, what they can use and such. As for the other parts like not showing in the member-list and such, I know they don't show in the "Newest Member" section in the board stats but their profile is available for viewing, but to be honest, I think that's more of an aesthetic thing. Cybertimber2009
You mean they aren't put into the database until they confirm email? Hmm... interesting idea, but where would you store that submitted info until then? They wouldn't have a user id to confirm, and assigning a temporary ID just to later transfer to a real ID and the full database? Almost seems pointless, but then you could purge those who don't validate in say I dunno.. 180 days. Then if they did for some reason return, they could sign up with the same name, and actually finish the process. I'll +1 it.

Guest
I disagree. I like the validating group.
teraßyte
Is not a big problem to hide profiles for members in validating group. No need for temporary IDs, just add a check and if member is in validating group redirect back to index like when the member doesn't exist :P

This sounds good to me, if what Wondering Soul said that they aren't showen in Newest Member is true. :) +Have a note after registration that they have only X days to confirm their e-mail or they will be deleted.
