Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted July 4, 200816 yr Hiya I run a forum on MyBB but want to purchase an IPB license and convert over. Before I buy anything I need to know can I convert the latest version of MyBB to the latest version of IPB? I emailed sales and conversions and neither have gotten back to me so I figured this would be the quickest way to find out. Thank you.
July 4, 200816 yr Our offices are open Mon-Fri, though we're off for the holiday weekend. They'll get back with you on Monday. :) Unfortunately I'm not completely up to date on which versions of which software can be converted, but to my knowledge we can do the latest MyBB
July 4, 200816 yr Monday?? oh that's a shame. i was hoping to get it all done by sunday. ho hum i suppose i have no choice but to wait. if anyone knows for sure whether the latest version of MyBB (1.2.13) can be converted to the latest version of IPB please please let me know cos i'd like to atleast make the purchase before the weekend is up. Thank you.
July 4, 200816 yr Here is the page with all of their converter information. Keep in mind that list may not be fully up to date.http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/convert.html
July 4, 200816 yr Thank you, and yes I have seen that. Unfortunately the only MyBB version it has listed is v1.0 but I'm using v1.2.13. Oh what a pickle! I'm pissed that I have to wait until Monday. I emailed them yesterday aswell.
July 4, 200816 yr I'm tempted to convert to vBulletin... today. The only problem with that is I have never used vB before, but I have used IPB on several occassions so am familiar with the software. I can't really compare the two.
July 4, 200816 yr There are threads elsewhere on these forums about comparing IPB to vB. I'll admit that they each have their own strong and weak points. However, I'm not going to try to turn this thread into an IPB vs vB thread. Ultimately, it is your money you are spending. Quite honestly, I feel that if you are patient and wait a couple of days, you'll be quite satisified with your IPB purchase, and the conversion should work just fine. I'd even be half tempted to install a myBB and make a couple of test posts (with attachments too) on my hosting space, and attempt to convert it using the converter to a test IPB board just to verify for you if it works or not. Just let me know if you'd like me to do this.
July 4, 200816 yr I will wait. I don't want to purchase vBulletin if I can convert to IPB. vB is my last option I think. I'd love for you to check that out for me, if you don't mind ofcourse... :)
July 4, 200816 yr Okay, so I tested the conversion, and everything seemed to check out just fine. The only small hiccup I found is the following: If someone uploaded an attachment, and the post has the code in it, then that code shows as regular text, such as [attachment=1]. The attachments still show up in the post like they are supposed to, just at the end of the post as if they weren't manually added to a specific location. Otherwise, polls, stickies, attachments, members, groups, everything went through just fine. This was tested with MyBB 1.12.3 As with any forum change, conversion, etc., I highly recommending performing not only a database backup, but a files backup as well. Doesn't hurt to be too safe!
July 7, 200816 yr With the MyBB converter we support 1.X. If you convert with our free converter and have an issue, we will take care of it. If you need any assistance or have any questions about the converter, feel free to open a ticket to the conversions department.
