Hey!

Fantastic news about Invision 3.0 developments!...I'm absolutely over the moon that you are including Search Engine Friendly URL's as standard. Absolutely fantastic. It will be very interested to see what else you have planned, and if any suggestions members have made will be taken on board.

Much like you have done for previous versions of IPS Products, are you planning Video Previews over the coming weeks/months? :) Just to keep us salivating.. :D

We will be providing frequent "small" updates. By small I just mean we are going to posting updates often but picking just one small bit of IP.Board 3.0 to talk about. This way we can keep new information coming and not have long pauses between.

Of course we have taken user suggestions :). We are always looking for more but we have to keep in check what we will be adding in 3.0 as we do not want to create bloated code and be constantly adding features to the point it never gets released. Besides, there's always 3.1 to look forward to :)

So please be gentle with feature requests for 3.0. We already have a huge list and will be announcing those additions over the coming weeks. It should be a good update.

Sounds great. I also think dropping PHP4 was a good decision regardless of it not being support in the future, just the new opportunities you have to do with things, ect.

The small updates is nice, also any images or like those Nexus videos when appropriate. Will customers be able to download a encoded test from time to time, or is that only for internal people? Will there be any encoding on the board or just specific uneeded files?

Will there be "stock" hooks or anything so that I can put some PHP code on my website and customize it a bit and a login box will be fully functional, or what if I want to pull the latest X blog posts, X topics, X images, ect?

Anything new with converge or same old deal?

Amazing news guys.

Cool :)

But can it be true that a Major release be ready within 6 months?

Right now we are thinking the fourth quarter of 2008 (IP.Board, IP.Blog, IP.Gallery, and IP.Downloads will all receive a new version at the same time) but of course that's subject to change... it could very well be sooner.

IPS has stated many times for at least a year now in many many discussions that it most likely wont be encoded at all keeping with tradition. I doubt that they release anything to public till Beta 1 or 2... The live test on IPS forums first then next release to public which works pretty good IMO & I don't see any need breaking away from that concept :P

Great news, thanks for keeping us posted =)

Quick question - I'm assuming the new user reputation feature can be turned off? We have no real use for it and people over at my community will neg rep others just for the hell of it. :P

One of the core goals of IPB 3.0 is admin choice. So yes it will be optional :)

Charles, Could you just provide alittle more detail about SEO in IPB 3.0. Can it be turned off and how would the urls be written :)

I'm sure I read somewhere that if and when they implement it that it would have a on/off setting. I'm curious though as to why you would want to turn it off...Does your host not support rewrite?

An example of a rewritten url would be this:

Old:
http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showforum=298

New:
http://forums.invisionpower.com/Employment-Opportuniti-f6.html

Just imagine a million forum owners have the old unwritten style and of course everyones is identical, how do you increase your rankings in search engines? You do it by rewrite which separates your same forum id with the actual forum name which now becomes a relevent item in seaches which in turns boosts your sites ranking. :)

Note: Is an example only... But the concept will should be pretty close if not exact.

I've never understood why so many people want reputation systems. Rating someone's profile is like reputation. My profile shows my rep here basically. lol

I do think what is needed and "somewhat" like a rep system is for people to recommend posts. If you think a post is good and helpful, click a button and it adds to that person's list of good posts. Soewhat like rep system,, but not exactly.

In fact I used something like that, but stopped because it had a bug. I think now that I know a tiny bit of programming I will use it again and try to fix it. It was simply a link issue anyway I think.

I am sure 3.0 will be very impressive though.

Edit: Oh by the way I agree tagging would be nice. I used one system that I had to upgrade for it to work on 2.2/2.3... well the author wouldn't answer emails and it doesn't work. It works other than the keywords arent being picked up properly by the spider.

Will the licensing scheme be the same when 3.0 debuts? I think it's good how it is now, and I hope it isn't changed yet again.

Also, I would like to see the new Lightbox thumbnail preview feature added as default. It's been added to vBulletin 3.7 and really is nice. Makes viewing thumbnails and attached images much more convenient.

I only just really start experiencing a reputation mod at another site I frequent ... No it's not vbcrap. Anywho, I find it reasonably effective for me to see how other members think about that person and if it's worth my time to reply to that person or another person instead. A good example is a person with a high reputation active in a topic would almost give me peace of mind that this person is very helpful and friendly and increase my chances of this person perhaps replying back to me. I was never keen on the rep mod before and never really understood it's purpose, but now that I have been exposed to it... I find it quite useful for any genre of board. From a members point of view and keeping my admin input to myself, I think a lot of existing members and new enrolled members will find it handy...especially the shy ones. :P

I mean really, I think the "pips" is kinda misleading IMO - I can already see the persons post count and the pips I think gives the impression that a person with a high pip count is brilliant when in fact that person can be a complete jack-in-the-box. So someone having 10k+ posts doesn't mean they are necessarily helpful, kind, respectful or anything of the sort...You never know until you interact with them and wonder how the heck they get so many posts and are not banned yet lol :P

Don't get me wrong, at least here at this site I can see quickly who is a active client and who's not from the color of the pips but then again there group title is just below it :) Hurray, I'm in the Red!!! But so are others which there is no way to tell what kind of person they are.

I am sure they will indeed use more lightboxing. I like that also.

I think they are seeking feature suggestions that will benefit not to only one person and his board but to as many customers and boards as possible, Don't get me wrong this is a great feature to have. But i think it should rather stay as a modification rather then a built in feature cause if they are gonna implement this one they will have to do the same with hundreds others.

For me guys i like alot of stuff that IPS gonna add but what i really wanna to see is the Skinning and Designing in IP.Board
cuz it's not easy for me to Design at this time.

As many customers, I'm very excited to see the new version ASAP.

just a echo of what i wrote in the blog:

"i really really hope you think of us developers in this version, we need good tools to export to xml which can be reimported easily. We need a GOOD hooks system that should be able to handle all our needs on a whim. We need good API's allowing us to integrate with anything we wish, you've promised most of these but we also really need a proper installer, something along the lines of the UMI mod but with a bit more control and functionality.

Also no mention was made about the modules and components system, i do hope these aren't being left out in the cold."

I totally agree with Jaggi, I have posted a topic while back which i at least hope someone took a look at it and read what i wrote. Since the contributers are a really valuable part of the company i think they should take into consideration.

Here is the topic i have posted:

http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...=271659&hl=

I know some of those were already requested before but i just wanted to make sure.

I hope that IPS staff takes the modification authors and contributers into consideration since they take a big part of IPS general successes. I mean they are the one who enhance the board further then what it's already have.

So i was thinking of those to make 'our' (Modifications Authors) lifes easier and by that making yours (IPS's) easier.

So here is a quick list i thought while using IPB.

* Components System - Great, Awesome thing to have. Makes coding so much easier and less file edits. One thing is missing tough it's small but still.. ability to re order the components links without the need of manually editing the entire components links menu. I mean sometimes i missed a menu link and then i have to manually re order them which kinda sucks.

* Templates - Really extensive template class and really nice one too, Love the HTML logic you have put into it but there are few things missing when it comes to templates.

* Currently we can use <if> <else /> </if> Would have been nice to have <if=""> <elseif="" /> </if> since sometimes those kind of things prevents a file edit.

* Ability to use Switch codes inside templates is a plus. (not that it matters but would nice to have a switch code in certain occasions)

* Including a template inside a template - this would save up a lot of time by ability to call a template within another template.

* Including sources files or any other php files inside the templates.

* BBcodes - Ability to use PHP in the custom bbcodes. For some reason that's not available yet with this extensive custom bbcode class. Sometimes and i do mean rarely occasions i would want to use some PHP in the custom bbcodes either in the bbcode replacement or in another field that will be called when the bbcode activated. doing so we can call in information from various sources into the bbcode.

That's what i have so far, Any one else that thought of any other helpful thing please share with us.

Edit: Another thing i remember Brandon said while back still when IPSB was active that IPS were thinking of a way to reward the people who contribute to the IPS team, I haven't heard a word about that since. Any news about that? Not that i am after something i just wanted to know if that idea is still under thoughts or was left alone back then.

thanks.
