Preventing members from deleting their attachments

We have found a small 'problem' in that in the members control panel they can delete their attachments. It kind of makes the 'limit edit time' feature worthless.

What happens is a members posts for awhile, then decides they want to delete their account and all the photos or videos they have posted, etc...

Needless to say, it ends up leaving a massive amount of holes in threads, topics that are empty, and the list goes on and on. So admin mut go in and clean these now empty posts up one at a time wasting hours on fixing the 'board' to look consistant again.

What usually happens is a member posts a copyrited photo. We delete it and PM the member politely of the error and why it was removed. They become upset and throw a childish tantrum. Then a month later they return all happy again, but it is too late to have prevented their tantrum.

We need a way to prevent members from deleting their posts by any means. I have spent hours going through all the skins and removing that link, but most anyone can figure it out by noticing it is gone and they go to another IPB site, view the link there and apply it to our site.

copyrite issues? Of course not. We can and do delete all of the persons posts to include their attachments at their request (even though as stated on the site, if you post a photo you give permission for all photos to remain on the site indefinately ;) )

It still doesn't solve the means to stop a member from deleting the attachments themselves. Like I stated, they always return and wish they had not made that childish mistake. Or if it did delete, it should take and delete the entire post, or thread if it is the leading post in it. Yet that would be a lot of work software wise and might make mistakes... so easiest is to just let an admin take care of it... thus a means to prevent them from leaving holes in the threads is best.

thanks - that link was exactly what I needed! I was a bit disappointed when I saw at first it was just a skin edit, then in the replies it tells how to actually remove it properly. THANKS AGAIN!

I can see why you want this, but the problem is that members have a limit of how much they can upload. The only way they can get more space to upload something new is by removing an old file from an old topic. I suppose this feature would be useful as long as members had unlimited space. But then again, giving unlimited space is a problem in itself.

well of course we have limits of 200 meg per attachment already, with unlimited post amounts, but every 100,000 posts or so, we usually just archive anything 90 days old. Members with the limited and VERY time consuming single file upload, that only Invision forum software is still restricting members to, usually give up after 20-50 attachments per post anyway.
