Considering very few people use ICQ, MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, perhaps we could add (if not replace) spots for Facebook and MySpace profile links, since those seem to be more popular these days. Does anyone else share this sentiment?

I know that I have a number of members who use Live Messenger, Yahoo and ICQ. Iw ould like to see a way to add more fields for "social networking" apps and sites. I know there are mods out there and you can custom profile fields but I would like a more dynamic way to add the sites/apps to the same area of the profile. Maybe in the ACP have an option to add more social apps/sites?

I have to agree. Maybe a better suggestion to this would be a more advanced Custom Profile Field editor. For example, allow it to have HTML actions or something of that nature to allow advanced profile fields like MySpace/FaceBook links so that these fields become interactive, almost like you see web links which launch applications like iTunes, AIM, etc.

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere before. I see the use of WLM more on International forums that serve to a wide variety of people from different background. I see more people with that than Yahoo, AIM, or ICQ.

People don't use ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo?!

Pfft. That is an incorrect statement. PLENTY of people use all of the above. In fact, I would beg to differ. More people probably use ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo than MySpace or Facebook. I don't see a need to replace these.

The only change I would recommend is the addition of gTalk.

This is the first time I have truly ever heard of gTalk. But there is no reason that we couldn't get an advanced custom field editor that would enable such a link. I believe if the administration area had access to input code to take effect on a clicked link that both could easily be accomplished.

Maybe I should have said Google Talk...

I don't know about replacing Yahoo/Live Msg/ICQ.

But I do think this thread would be better served as a discussion on how IPB can be better integrated with popular social networking sites (such as Facebook and MySpace). Perhaps some kind of aggregator for Facebook's newsfeed? Or simply an RSS aggregator so people can post their own custom feeds on their IPB profiles? That'd be cool.

I agree that IPB does need better integration with the social networking sites. I would also like to see out of the box digg, reddit, etc included in IPB. I know there are mods out there for these but with the wave of social networking, it's almost past the point of trying to ignore it anymore.
