sallam
I hope IPB developers consider this in a future release:Its useful for a poster to be able to view their posts which were set invisible. It saves admin and mods lots of PMs and inquiries about where their masterpieces had gone. It also allows mods to show the poster why it was set invisible, by adding a line to the invisible post.Currently I have to use a mod for that with every update. I do hope they add it at least as an option from ACP.Many thanks.
C_ind
I think this is an excellent suggestion. Very useful feature, and wouldn't be hard to implement either (only four lines, although in four different pages).
sallam
Yes its not hard to add as a mod. The problem is having to do it allover again with every new update. Its always best to use fewer mods as possible.
sallam
does ipb3 now has that feature added?
Wolfie
No it doesn't. Also it would be useful if there was a 3 way setting on post visibility. Visible, Visible to Poster and Moderators, Hidden from Public. Visible is obvious, everyone who has access to see the topic will see that post. Visible to Poster/Moderators, hidden from everyone except the person who made the post and the moderators. Basically what you are looking for. Hidden from Public, the way it is now, where you have to have access to see it because it's invisible. The "midway" setting could be used when someone has made a post (or new topic), as it would allow them to see that the post is there and could even fine tune it by editing it (if they see typos/etc), even if it's invisible to the rest of the world. Then when staff decides what to do with it, they could either approve it (visible), hide it from all, or possibly attach a note that would appear to the poster saying that it's not suitable for public view (yet) and what they need to do if they want it approved. Visible, Partially Hidden, Invisible -or- Approve, Queue, Disapprove :)

sallam
My suggestion is now 2 years old, yet no developer passed by to say anything about it. They should change that attitude and start listening to users' needs. There is even no more 'suggestions' section in this forum.
Wolfie
My suggestion is now 2 years old, yet no developer passed by to say anything about it. They should change that attitude and start listening to users' needs. There is even no more 'suggestions' section in this forum. They do listen to the users ideas. Just not all of them make it into a release and sometimes ideas get overlooked or forgotten. A recent idea of mine was added within hours even though IPB3 is feature locked, which is rare to happen but I think since it was an extremely simple and useful request, it was tossed in just because it could be. Also, some members were complaining about how something was being done a different way and they wanted it the old way and IPS has made it possible to do it either way. So you see, IPS does listen. bfarber
We can't possibly add every suggestion made I'm afraid. Just because no one replied or your suggestion wasn't added, I don't think it's fair to say we don't listen to users' needs.
sallam
but all replies here agreed that its a good suggestion, so why not listen to this one?. I know you're doing your best. We only want to see IPB better.
Wolfie
He didn't say it wouldn't be added. Considering how long ago it was initially posted, it could be that it was forgotten about or overlooked by mistake, not on purpose. Also, he has to consider the ramifications of such a feature, not only on the quality of the feature but the impact of the code itself in multiple locations. I have no doubt that if it's decided to be a good feature to have/use and wouldn't be that hard to implement, then it'll make its way in at some point. I'm certainly for this feature, but getting upset if it's not instantly added won't help matters.
sallam
but getting upset if it's not instantly added won't help matters.Who said I'm upset? I'm glad that bfarber replied here. And Wolfie, umm.. I don't think 2 years can be called "instantly" lol.
Ryan H.
The ability to hide users' posts without them realizing it's hidden would be a very beneficial addition in my opinion.
Wolfie
And Wolfie, umm.. I don't think 2 years can be called "instantly" lol. What I mean is that if it doesn't appear at all in the 3.0.x series. I'm not sure how much work would be involved but I imagine that it would be enough to either wait for 3.1/3.2/etc or not at all until 4.0 at the earliest. Although I admit it would be nice if it were to be included by 3.1 (if it makes it in at all). The ability to hide users' posts without them realizing it's hidden would be a very beneficial addition in my opinion. Not really hiding it without their knowing it. More like they'd be able to see their own posts, possibly in the "invisible" highlighting, so the member can access the post to do edits or whatever else. We only want to see IPB better. Everything we have added over the years has been due to customer requests essentially. The same thing you've just said about this topic can also be said about every feature we have added. Put simply, we only have so much time in a day and can only add so many features. This one just hasn't come up, at least yet.

Wolfie
I'm totally for this! Sometimes, you want posts not to be visible to guests, for example, donwload links for certain stuff. That would be something different. This is something that is either visible to all, visible only to mods/admins -or- visible to mods/admins and the author of that specific post. Wouldn't be by member group.
TCWT
Ok, add member group would be nice too but I still like your idea.
