Invision Community 5: A video walkthrough creating a custom theme and homepage By Matt Thursday at 04:02 PM
Luke Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 It turns out that some popup blockers will block the friends window... Was a bit confusing for one of my members who had no idea until they noticed a tiny icon saying something was blocked. She was trying to add a friend and it would not work because of it...Maybe there's not much you can do about it... But if it was somehow ingeniously, without over bloating, worked into the My Assistant window it would solve that problem. You could have an arrow that pops it out into a new window for the conveniences of having it in a window. Or make the function of adding friends separate from the window itself... Or both.
TestingSomething Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I suggested a million times moving it to the My Assistant window ever since pre-releases of 2.2 and they wouldn't ever comment on why they won;t do it. They also wouldn't say why they wouldn't put sig resizing back in, but somene made a mod for that anyway now.I think it would be a lot better in the My Assistent window, assuming it has no reason it cant be done or anythingf. Also it should have some expanded features such as showing where on the forums everyone is at the time you look at the list.Just opinions, but this one in particular I never understood how it wasn't more obvious it should be done that way. And also maybe have it show in another color when there are friend requests.
bfarber Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 As Basher pointed out, this has been suggested before. I'd recommend adding your comments to an existing topic on this subject. :) It helps to keep the same suggestions together. For the record, the reason we didn't do it is because of a feature in the friends list that wouldn't work well via the My Assistant window without a much stronger javascript backend. The friend's list "auto-refreshes". You can open it, browse the forums, and then look at the window to instantly know if anyone is online. You can click the pm link and the main forum window will open with the PM function (not the popup). This allows it work similar to a sidebar in AIM or MSN, through the forums (for lack of a better term). It's much much much more difficult to achieve these things if the friend's list worked via a div inside the main window.
Luke Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 That's great brandon, I'm not asking you to change any of that. This is what I want to change:1) Add a "Friends" tab to my assistant that shows your friends online. It doesn't show pending or mutual friends in a tab. It can, however, show something like "# pending friend requests".2) When adding a friend it doesn't depend on the friends window to function. Right now if you add a friend and the popup blocker catches the window, a friend isn't added.Something like that anyway... Add it to My Assistant, but give the ability to have an "expand" button for the window to have those conveniences.
