Suggestion: Reason for edit

Mods can supply a reason for editing posts; why not regular users?

Regular users can too if you have it enabled in their group settings.

I cant seem to find that option  (yes i know)

Ah, you are right. Sorry, my mistake.

+1 for option on per group basis :)

Would be pretty easy to do i think as the code must already exist for admins etc.. So would only need small changes so all users could use it i expect

+1 Anyway :)

IPS are insistent that they won't add this feature.

Maybe not insistent, but I have indeed seen it brought up and someone from IPS pretty much say no.

Link it. :D

We are?

Yes.

It was requested more than once after the release of 2.2, and I distinctly remember several members of staff responding saying that it wouldn't be added as a per group option.

Perhaps at that time....just because we don't immediately add something doesn't mean we will never add it.

That feature was added very late in the development cycle, and we didn't feel we had enough time to modify it to do anything other than what we designed it to do at the time and still get the release out on schedule.

A group option would be nice for everyone I think, but I personally would not make it available to anyone but my moderators. Reason? If members want to indicate they edited their post they can do this:

EDIT: I edited my post for this reason

But when a moderator edits a post using this feature, they are usually editing a post other than their own, and it stands out from the post itself. My moderators have been use it for editing other people's posts, but when they edit their own they still use the "EDIT: reason" method :)

Yeah, it stands out..I wouldn't want a topic to be filled with that css tile at the bottom of posts.
