Posted April 10, 200717 yr Instead of using "html replacement" provide a PHP plugin file. That way you can do custom dynamic things on-the-fly.I did this myself on my forums, but because of time it takes to upgrade a forum with modifications I removed it (and all modifications on the site). One of the "custom bbcodes" using the "dynamic bbcode" function was the "random" tag. It allowed members to specify different content every time the page refreshed. This was extremely popular in signatures. After I removed it I got a lot of complaints...Example of use:[random][img=http://www.mysite.com/image1.jpg[/img][?][img]http://www.mysite.com/image2.jpg[/img][?][img]http://www.mysite.com/image3.jpg]With this example it would only display one of these images, different every refresh. With "dynamic custom bbcode" you can also do things like code highlighting, etc...I really wish "dynamic bbcode" was a feature...
April 10, 200717 yr I find the fact of having random images being displayed when refreshed quite interesting.I support this...
April 10, 200717 yr The requested functionality is a duplicate of what is requested in this thread that is not but a day old :)
April 10, 200717 yr The requested functionality is a duplicate of what is requested in this thread that is not but a day old :)AH! Glad I'm not the only one!My mistake... I thought what I had suggested was fairly unique
April 10, 200717 yr The requested functionality is a duplicate of what is requested in this thread that is not but a day old :)I looked at that and didn't really follow the purpose of his suggestion.
April 10, 200717 yr Actually it does. The thread that I linked to is requesting the ability to process BBcode by predefined php scripting, similar to how new settings are allowed to execute php code to process them. Allowing such php expansion to the existing bbcode system covers this request among many others. :)
April 10, 200717 yr I looked at that and didn't really follow the purpose of his suggestion.Naw it does. It may be hard to understand but it's pretty much the same.
April 10, 200717 yr You're talking to someone who's greatest knowledge of this sort of thing is how to center stuff. Well, cheers to the idea, past or present.
April 10, 200717 yr I have found this feature very useful in the past. The thread actually does pertain to this topic, just on a more broad scale. I am supporting this topic in hopes that this feature will come out (soon) in the future, and I hope to use it on my boards.
April 10, 200717 yr Haha that could be fun like do:[random]Some post[?]Another post[?]Yet another post![/random]And let people figure it out :P haha
April 10, 200717 yr I think there'd need to be a option to only allow it in signatures and avatars :P
April 11, 200717 yr You can't use BBCode in avatars though ;)But yes it would be nice to have an option to where certain BBCodes can be used :).
April 11, 200717 yr You can't use BBCode in avatars though ;)But yes it would be nice to have an option to where certain BBCodes can be used :).BBCode in avatars....You've hit something on the head there. Might not be a bad thing, who said avatars HAVE to be images.?
April 11, 200717 yr I've added quite a few modifications using javascript (because of course, PHP requires hacking the coding... too much hassle/work/chance-of-error) and random images can be done via Javascript... and as far as I know, you should be able to put Javascript into the custom BB-tags area.
April 11, 200717 yr It may be possible, but it doesn't prevent the hidden images to be loaded in the background. Doing it in PHP it only loads the one item into memory (less bandwidth).
