Turn Off Forums When Upgrading

Is it a good idea to turn off the forums when upgrading?

If it is or is not, I think it would be beneficial to add this to the upgrade instructions.

Anyone else?

I recommend doing that

I used to not do it, but now I always do.

It's not really recommended but it's a good idea to do so.

I also recommend it and hope its added as a default feature of forum installer script.

I wouldnt mind if they just got the install correct in the first place. This is supposed to have gone through rigorous testing, and people are having massive install problems, especially on the upgrade.

Mine was ok till I upgraded the Gallery and then all hell broke loose.

Anyone notice the spellchecker has also disappeared from Firefox, you used to be able to see it in Firefox 2 but its gone.

Sounds like you have other problems besides a failed install.

I had no problem with the installer, I suggest you open a support ticket to fix your Gallery issues, but the upgrade has nothing to do with Firefox's spell checker feature not working.

Because its independent of your website....

I must agree...my test installation and upgrade went flawlessly.

Yes, it's a good idea to turn the forums offline when upgrading because no one is able to write to the database (e.g. posting, registering, editing on the board during the upgrade process) and reduces the risk of errors that may occur.

I think the forums should automatically be turned off-line when upgrading. ;)
