Defenestration
I know the official line is that it's only recommended to run final releases, but I am about to buy IPB within the next few days and was thinking about going straight to 2.2 RC2 for my board. Is it stable/secure enough ?Is anyone else going to use RC2 on a live board ?
Logan
Yup, I'm using RC 2 on a couple live boards. One in particular that I just upgraded GSO. Very stable, not a single problem :)
Defenestration
You must be confident with it being a Security board :)
Logan
I'm confident that IPB 2.2 is much more secure than IPB 2.1, therefore it being a security board... very necessary for the site to be secure :)
TestingSomething
I am strongly considering it. On one small site I already am using it. But on my main site, I am not sure because then most of my modifications are gone.
TestingSomething
.Logan, I am not so sure how stable RC2 is, even compared to RC1 though. Someone is claiming they can't start topics, there is a JS error in topics (IE), and some other problems which werent in RC1 apparently. I am wodnering whether to use it on my main site or not. Defenestration
.Logan - How come you haven't enabled the option to remove the version from the bottom of the page, as this is supposed to make it more secure from attacks on specific versions of IPB ?Looks like there will be a RC3, me thinks. Keven Fox
Well my situation is a bit different. I restarted my site with a new URL so only about 7 members. With that, I decided to use 2.2 starting with RC1. I have installed a couple mods even though I know I'll lose them (most likely) on upgrading each time and going to final, so what I do is use simple mods for now.It seems very secure, and now that I understand it more I'm more happy. (Some of you saw my post about .htaccess, yes I was stupid about that). There are the issues in my signature though.

I think IPS is more concerned about people trying to upgrade from a stable version than starting anew.

Defenestration
Yes, it will be a completely fresh install with completely fresh new MySQL 5.x database.Since I won't get my registration details if I buy now (ie. over the weekend), I'll purchase next week and proceed with the install of 2.2 RC2 :)
Nimdock
I'm tempted; however, without support the temptation level decreases a lot, hehehe...

Defenestration
I thought they weren't going up until IPB 2.2 final is released, and I can't see IPB 2.2 final being released over the weekend ?
Logan
No, they won't be increasing it until IPB 2.2 final, but final like he said, isn't far away at all.

ScottyToledo
No way. I'm waiting til Final. I have almost 8,000 members and over 72,000 posts on my board, and I'm not going to risk my board by installing an UNFINISHED product. And even after it does go final, I am still going to wait a few days to see if anyone is having problems. Am I paranoid? No, I'm just being careful. I've got 71K posts and some change and about 700 members. I've upgrade my board to RC2 and had some good backups first. Only risked some time to restore my back ups. Mesmer
I will upgrade when Final is available. If anything goes wrong I want to have the support I've paid for.
Boozer
I believe that a release candidate should be fine enough to use on a live forum. :D
