Nearing Completion

I would first like to say that I really like IPB. To me, it is the best board out there for what I need and want. I love the community behind the product as well. I'm sure this is similar for other board software. As 2.2 is nearing, I see a board that I am going to enjoy using. I feel that for my site, the features that are included will be well received. I'm obviously going to have to do some waiting for mods to be converted, but that is fine.

As this project (IPB 2.2) is nearing release, I am curious to see how the developers and those that have worked on the project through various stages feel. Obviously there is an air of completion that is more than likely felt. How do you feel about the response thus far from the BETA community? I know that I've done projects on smaller scale and it feels good releasing my "baby" out into the world.

Just wondering what is going through your minds.

Not sure if this is being posted into the correct forum or not. If not, please move as needed.

Welcome mate :)

Welcome. :)

Whilst I can't speak for everyone involved, I've been doing this pretty much long enough for it to feel just part of the process. I pretty much know what to expect from the different development stages.

Getting feedback is an interesting process. Some really minor features that I didn't think twice about polarize the community resulting in a 10 page "hate / love" topic over something relatively trivial. It's good that the community is passionate about the software although it is odd from a developer's point of view.

All in all, it's a relief to get a product out in a finished state although you're pretty much working on the next project or version so you don't get too much time to reflect.

Matt, maybe have different versions of Invision Forum
just like we have in DVD + , -, +-, RW SO so that the
complaining members can pick one IPB forum of their choice with
desired features. . .

PS: not really serious. :)

Hello,

As this is the first "major" release I've been involved with on a large scale, it's a relatively new experience for me. While Matt's experienced this all before, it's something I'm still absorbing.

I'm quite happy with some of the changes in 2.2 - especially with some of the lesser-discussed backend changes that have been due (i.e. MySQL5 support, and support for the mysqli client, support for eaccelerator, etc.).

It's difficult to see the disatisfied posts when you've worked so long and hard on something, but as with any software it's to be expected I guess.

All in all it's a great learning experience, and will help prepare me for 3.0 and beyond.
