Some useful Calendar features and UI updates:

1. There are three Add a new event buttons when you can easily put one interface that as all three options. This would reduce overall confusion to calendar users trying to locate which of the three options best suits their needs. This would reduce overall load times, server resources and GUI understanding,

The fields required would be the following:
2. Title of Event
3. Location of Event
4. Time
A. Start and End Date when you click it a mini calendar pops up so the user can pick the date. Similar to the those travel sites where you have to pick a start and end date.
B. Start and End time a pull down menu that has a 12 hour clock since the user shouldn't need to convert it to a 24 clock with AM and PM pull down.
C. Include a check box for recurring events
5. A check box for if this is an all day event.
6. A note field for adding a greater description
7. A URL Field for a website or weblink reference.
8. A private check box for if this is on your personal calendar.
9. A alarm check box which is a field to enter email notification to either to the person or the subscribed user. This would be great to notify a user base in the community about upcoming events. Which includes the calendar information in the email. The Subject would be the event title and the body would contain all the event details.
10. A field in the alarm area to notify either by X minutes or X hours or X days before the event starts or before the event ends. X being a numerical value
11. A check box option would provide an additional interface to reveal the recurrence option which would would include.
A. Check box for "Repeat Every" X Day or X Week or X Month or X year pull down menu. While X would be a numerical input field.
B. Check boxes for Monday through Sunday to specify which days would this repeat.
C. Radio buttons for a Forever option, Number of times with a Numerical input field for how many times. Like X times this would repeat.
D. Radio button option for UNTIL which the user can specify a date in the mini calendar.
12. 11 (B,C,D) would be grouped together so the user would have to choose one of the three options.
13. An Exceptions field should also be include where the event is ignored if you specify the date from the pull down menu. For instance you can specify to ignore the recurring event on 9/29/07.
14. Specifying which calendar this event would be included.
15. Private or public event option.

View options:
1. Also included in this option should be a hourly interface where it shows hours of the day on the right and events on the left. This will help to organize new events from multiple users.

Standalone app examples include outlook express, mozilla calendar, ical, meeting maker to name a few.

thanks and keep up the great work. Everyone is welcome to add any features that i've missed.

It'd be nice if an iCal file could be generated for each calendar - so that users of Google Calendar, 30 Boxes or any standards based calendar application could subscribe to the calendar.

Forum members being able to invite other members (and maybe non-members) to events and have their name added to an attendance list would be great too :)

I agree with the iCal integration thingy. I've noticed a lot of the airline web sites let you do this now. Once you have your reservation, you click a link and it pops out an iCal file.

Also, it would be nice if the administrator could be e-mailed when a new event is added to the calendar. This is especially useful for calendars that require administrator approval to be visible.
