ObsoletePower
I am not very clear on that note. From what I understand about the warning, installing this release will result in a total loss of data. Is that referring to total loss of the 2.1.7 data or the SQL data such as people's posts, passwords, usernames etc...Can someone please clarify this for me?Thank you in advance! Keith J. Kacin
If you install it on the same database (using the same prefix), as your current 2.1.7 board, your data WILL be lost. Your posts, members, forums, etc.
Buddy Kidd
Do not install this on a production board. When you install it you start out with everything new. All the code and all the sql data. This version is for a test system only. When IPS comes out with a production version it will have a install package which will not delete all the sql data. Your posts, members, forums, etc.Well what if I use the feature on the admin cp of the 2.1.7 board and backup the sql data, will I be able to revert it back? Is there a way that 2.2 won't be compatible with this data?I would install on a separate database if we had one but the package I have with my host, we only have two available and they are both used. I need to test it out to ensure compatibility with our scripts and so on. I also need to make sure the new features will work fine with our system, is there a way to test it out while keeping the data safe? I mean is the admin cp backup sufficient enough to restore our data? Thanks in advance!

Terry - AKA Dumbledore
There is most likely changes in the table structures also, and once you run the install the old DB will not reinstall with the new tables. I would install in a new DB only for testing purposes.

Sazpaimon
Couldn't he install it on the same database but with a different table prefix?
Logan
Couldn't he install it on the same database but with a different table prefix?I suppose, but why would you want to do that? It'd be safer to just use an entirely different database.

ObsoletePower
Well what about testing the version internally? Without uploading the files, just running the forum internally.

Josh DeVeau
Internally meaning on a local install, using a personal web server like Reactor Server 1.4 would work.
Terry - AKA Dumbledore
The problem with that is the encoding. You can install zend or ioncude on a local host, but I have found it to be more of a problem then with my host account.
