It would be really nice to replace the quote after quote after quote in the current PM system, with the standard forum layout of replies.
It would save room in the DB buy not keeping 2 copies (1 per user) and all the additional quotes.

Just have an ongoing list, just like a normal topic. When both users have chosen to delete the topic, it could be removed from the DB

Something would need to be done for multiple recipients, but I'm sure IPS could take care of that in an efficient way.

Ironically the PM system was the topic of conversation in our offices yesterday. We have some plans to improve it for a future version.

You can copy some features from it. like show read, unread, star a message, search in pms... Just some ideas.

I'd expect not to see it in 2.2, as it is essentially feature complete now. Can't say I know what the next major release will be though. :)
