[Sugg]One Log In several Identity

Hello all,

With the use of converge (a log in system, if I have correctly understand), what do you think about add the possibility to a user to create more then one identity. This could be usefull to make a difference between a moderator or admin post, posted with the identity Admin for example and a post just to continue a discussion posted with a "normal" identity.

Maybe this should go more like you post an announcement in a forum. And you can choose what name the announcement will be from, and it'll be linked to your user account ID. So you can make it Admin or John or Moderator. You can hover over the link of the name and it'll direct to your profile.

I'm neutral on this since I don't moderate a community board.

To have more than one identity you really need more than one members record. However, member records are unique based on the email address, so the same information could not be duplicated while just changing the display name.

Likewise, converge operates based on email address, so you couldn't have multiple accounts with the same info.

I know that bfarber, but maybe my explanation was not clear.

Actually, when you register the board your profil is made by an email adress, a password and only one Name (bfarber for exemple) in the board.

What I ask, will it be possible to have the profil made by one email adress, a password and several Name (bfarber, moderator, IPS Staff, ...) in the board and having the possibility to choose the identity youwant to use when you create a post.

It wouldn't work properly is the thing...at least not reliably in a fashion that would make it worth the time to code.

If you have one record, you have one id. Then boardurl.com/index.php?showuser=id would always be the same - all the different identities would display the same profile, making it pointless.

So say you add some sort of switch to the url to include the name - smart person spots this and just deletes it from the url.

You're better of just registering multiple accounts with various email addresses and using those different accounts.
