Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted April 5, 200619 yr From time to time, rules and registration agreements change. A feature that would require a user to press the accept button for the agreement would be useful. I'm aware that most people don't read the things, but if you force everyone to select it, they will not have the excuse that they weren't aware of the change. A failure mode for this would be useful as well. For the members that do not agree, move them to a different user group so that admins can decide their fate.
April 5, 200619 yr Just put something like "in your usage of this message board you agree to the above rules" in your board rules. Then they agree to them just by using the board. Unless that would be counted as an unfair contract term. Hmm.

Unless that would be counted as an unfair contract term. Hmm. Courts here have ruled that there is no legally binding contract when terms are passively posted on a site because there's no assurance the person is even aware of it. Changing terms after one's acceptance would probably be viewed the same way.

Changing terms after one's acceptance would probably be viewed the same way. What reason would you ever need to have a court involved with your community? I think making it public that that the rules have changed should be enough
April 6, 200619 yr I think this, as a feature request, is a good idea. It could even automaticlaly be trigger when the rules are changed. I have put the statement in my board's rules, accepted during registration, that users are responsbile for monitoring the rules, which may change without notice.
