Posted November 17, 200519 yr A lot of my members have a LOT of PMs... I recently introduced a limit because they just kept everything and not deleting anything. That said... I'd like to see a way for them to 'save' their messages to their local PC. Something like an export that packages up everything in .HTML or something and boots it out to their PC in a .zip or whatever. I don't think it would be terribly hard, and it would be an immensely great addition to the private messages.
November 17, 200519 yr nvm yes the archive folder dose allow you to export of a seperate html doc. so the only suggestion i would make would bee to tack onto the move to drop down box, have an option to move to the archive folder ruther then just using the archive rules
November 18, 200519 yr How is that different from the "Archive Messages" feature we already have? Under 2.0.4, the "Archive" finction sucks a bit ... Use the "HTML page" version and you see a lot of missing data, for instance, who the PM was sent to ... (I'm still re-writing code to capture and maintain that data) I gave up playing with the "Importable MS Excel datafile" in an attempt to remove / modify / change all the HTML that was included in that output.
November 18, 200519 yr What I seek in a PM save/archive function is all of the information and nearly all of the ease-of-use (via multiple widely-used formats, including text, CSV, and self-contained Lo-Fi HTML (for portability); nearly all because the save/archive isn't actually online). Beauty is not necessary for my purposes, but would be a useful (default unchecked self-contained Hi-Fi HTML) option for those with lots of offline storage and a need for beauty. By all of the information, I mean:Message Title Sender Recipient Carbon Copy Recipients (if any; not visible in IPB v2.0.4 except during composition due to CC always being blind) Date & Time User's time zone at the time of the post (offset from UTC which is archaically called GMT in IPB, as adjusted for whether or not Daylight Savings Time was in effect at the Date and Time of the PM) Name of the PM Folder containing the Message Body of the MessageIs that too much to ask? Ref: GMT No Longer Recommended
November 19, 200519 yr Number of messages to archive max. limit is only 50. Could this number be increased?
November 22, 200519 yr What about an option to send an email copy of both received and sent mail? (Including the message text, not only the heading as it is for received messages today.) Our previous forum software had this and it's one of the functions I really miss in IPB....
March 12, 200619 yr Number of messages to archive max. limit is only 50. Could this number be increased? I need to increase this as well, as I allow my members to save many more than 50 messages and I get asked periodically to increase this number. Did you ever figure it out? I haven't dived into the code yet, but it appears to be hardcoded somewhere. ..Al
March 12, 200619 yr Yeah, the current PM archive function is pretty poor. It outputs everything in a fairly useless format. A nice webpage emailed to users would suffice.
