Posted June 11, 200519 yr This worked great. Source is included.http://www.broken-notebook.com/spell_checker/index.php
June 11, 200519 yr It can be optimized to be fast, Im sure. I wonder if we will actually see this, cause this is a very handy feature. Saves us all the typo's.
June 12, 200519 yr things like this are definetely cool but has anyone of you ever considered the extra load on the server's cpu or the site's bandwith limit ?
June 12, 200519 yr It seems this system is similar to GMail's systems... they seem to be doing fine... Plus its Javascript... Server Load shouldn't fluctuate too much, since this system is mostly handled on the client side. +1
June 14, 200519 yr I hope they don't spend any time in the release schedule implementing this. It should be left to as a mod. Because it would be too time consuming to develop.
June 14, 200519 yr Ok....it doesn't work for me. Plain and simple. When I click the check spelling button nothing happens. WIndows user on firefox....any ideas? Works now :D
June 14, 200519 yr To be honest, i think implementing something like that would be overkill, i really do. :ermm:
June 14, 200519 yr What is the problem as long as it is switchable (on/off) ? Why shouldn't it be possible if Gmail does it. OK they have a LOT of servers, but also a lot of users ...
June 14, 200519 yr I'd personally rather my members typed at an acceptable language standard for their age in the first place, than have to rely on a spell checker which slows loading times, in hope that the members would bother to use it, when chances are they wouldn't bother anyway.
June 14, 200519 yr should work in firefox if javascript is enabled I have it enabled. The live search in my blog works just fine.

June 14, 200519 yr Rates high on the coolness factor, but would be too slow for me to use regularly. Maybe IE 7.0 will have an integrated spell checker, i.e. IESpell.
June 15, 200519 yr live search and this spell checker are awesome!! where did you find livesearch jpgodlew?
June 16, 200519 yr I'd personally rather my members typed at an acceptable language standard for their age in the first place, than have to rely on a spell checker which slows loading times, in hope that the members would bother to use it, when chances are they wouldn't bother anyway. This is definitely my opinion about this; basically those who are bothered about their spelling are more likely to either make a decent enough guess at spellings anyway, or check somewhere. The people we want to use it are those people who tlk lyk that all the tym - which is really annoying! Find a reasonable way to automatically convert those words or otherwise stop it happening and I'll be happy. Spellcheckers are for writing letters to important people, complaint emails to companies etc. They're just not needed on 99.9% of forums. However, with that source code I'm sure someone could make a mod to satisfy the people who think it is a good idea. Who knows, if they use the module system it might not even be too much of a 'Barneys Girlfriend' to deal with board upgrades too...
