Actually, icons are "hard displayed" and can be named as iconxx.gif which is not really a friendly use if you need to add or edit icons. To add icons, you have to edit the template ... if we had to do the same for emoticons it would have been a nightmare. Recently I wanted to add a few post icons, and remove a few, but then noticed how odd it was to do so, so gave up for the time being. I would think it be just like the emoticon editor.
