What are Favicons?
Favicons are small square images used by web browsers to show a graphical representation of the site being visited and show on many places: browser toolbars, bookmarks, tabs, address bars, and desktop shortcuts. They provide immediate identification of their represented sites, and play a critical role in site branding and product recognition. You have probably seen many favicons before, even if you don’t know what they are.
Will this affect my site's performance?
This app relies upon a fetch to Google's Shared Stuff (S2) service, so your server is not affected by the favicon pull. Images are in PNG format (not ICO) and will render correctly in all browsers using the proper <img> tags. Finally, this all happens asynchronously, so there is no delay to the page.
