About This File

Includes a 4.3+ compatible Sign in With Steam Login Handler!

This app will obtain data from Steam for your users, and groups, and place it in your IPS Community database for use anywhere on your site. Your board will re-load your members Steam Online information, in configurable batches, every 2 minutes, so you always have up to date information without impacting load times of your community pages.

Out of the box, this app will display steam information in the following places

  • Member Profile
  • Next to Members' posts
  • Member Hovercards (Steam Online Status only)
  • Widget: X Random Online Steam Members displayed anywhere you can place a Widget
  • Widget: Steam Group information

More detailed information about the members Steam profile is displayed on the Members Profile page.  Including an optional list of games the member owns.  Out of the box the list of games can be shown in either an image grid layout, or list view.

Don't want to use Sign in With Steam? No problem, this app works with a Custom Profile field also. Want to use both a custom profile field AND Sign in With Steam? Not a problem, this app seamlessly pulls information from both locations to create a single list of users to cache.

Valid Steam Input format for Custom Profile Field:

  • Steam Name: ex. ' Aiwa '
  • 17 digit Steam ID: ex. 76561197964468370
  • Old school Steam ID: ex. STEAM_0:0:2101321 ***

If there are any other places you'd like to see a users steam information displayed, let me know!

Scales seamlessly to work with larger boards without impacting site / server performance.

IP.Board 3.4.x version available here.

Prerequisites

  • *** Supported natively on 64 bit server configurations.  For 32 bit server configurations, php-bcmath is required to decode this format.
  • Apache / Nginx server timeout settings should be > 30 seconds.  This allows Steam Web API servers time to respond before failing gracefully.  If configured for < 30 seconds, HTTP 502 errors may occur when running large / bulk updates. If in doubt, contact your hosting provider.

IPS 4.4 and above, use 2.1.11+
IPS 4.3.x use version 2.1.11
IPS 4.2.x use version 2.1.7, unsupported
IPS 4.0.x & 4.1.x, use version 2.0.13, unsupported

Released

This will be the final release tested against 4.3.x. Functional with 4.4, no bugs found, full compatibility update and testing in progress.

Bug Fixes

  • Level Progress calculation fixed, ID added to the element so it can be targeted from custom.css for advanced styling where required.
  • Hardened memberSync extension so profile cache entries aren't created if the value entered in the custom profile field doesn't yield a legitimate SteamID.
  • Additional diagnostics code added to login handler, controlled via ACP setting.

Known issues

  • 'Validation Failed' on Steam Login.
    • Based on exhaustive testing, Steam simply isn't validating all of the tokens it is providing during Steam Login.  The only solution is for the user to re-attempt authentication as many times as necessary until the Steam servers accurately validate the token they provide.  This is a Steam issue, and I'm afraid there isn't anything I can do if Steam is responding that the token, they provided, isn't valid.
  • When used in conjunction with Ahmad's Teamspeak Integration:
    • Do NOT turn on Force entering UUID. Teamspeak Integration hook is hijacking the IPS 'Complete Profile', where users provide their e-mail address after registering with Steam, and accounts are being left without e-mail addresses.

First, this didn't work on my board.

I had a great communication experience with the autor, who solved my issues. It now works well, as intended. ^_^

Edit
An update has been released to address the issues I highlighted below. I was also compensated for my renewal due to the lack of updates for some period of time.

Support is great, but updates are a very rare commodity. Currently, steam IDs don't populate in core_members which means the profile integration does not work until someone manually sets said members steam ID through the database. This is very tiresome especially when you get 30-40 new registrations per day. I paid $35 and have to pay $12.50 every 6 months for no updates what-so-ever.

I reported this bug on June 11th 2018
With no updates committed, I reached out again on July 15th and got a response.

I've got a few bugs I'm still investigating, looking to release them all together and put the login handler through more thorough testing before the next release. Planning a release next weekend if I can get these random oddities fixed.

Again, after no commits, I reached out again on August 2nd and got the following response.

Quote

I've been debugging this issue, along with an another for a couple days, that sees the Steam servers respond with a bad login about 40% of the time. I have what you're asking about fixed but it doesn't do any good if Steam won't validate a login consistently.

I'll evaluate where I am at the end of the weekend and see if I want to release a hotfix with only some of the bugs fixed.

September 16th, still no updates I yet again reached out and got yet another empty response.

Quote

Apologies, I’ve had quite a bit of unexpected medical issues the last month, and neurosurgery scheduled for next week.

This will get resolved as soon as I am able.

Thank you for your patience.

Now it's November 12th and still NO updates. I wouldn't mind if it was a small or simple bug, but this bug is affecting the main functionality of this plugin which is automation. Why did I buy this in the first place if I have to do everything manually anyways?! 6 months and no updates, I'd firmly recommend you avoid buying this until the developer commits to maintaining his work.

Response from the author:

The review is accurate. iDeath has been patient and I have failed to release a bug fix version since receiving a few bugs from clients. Many of the bugs have indeed had code commits made to them and are set to be tested/QA'd to validate they resolve the bug satisfactorily.

Thank you for updating your review.

Installed originally without any issues on my first site but on my second site there was a conflict with a removed steam login handler, support was first class with the issue sorted in no time. If you want support that will respond quickly and be helpful then don't worry :)

Really worth every penny!

I highly recommend this! I've used it since it got release and it's helped me and my communities ALOT.
Theres is so much you can do with this and is really easy to use.

Any bugs that I've came accross have been fixed preety fast and the recent one due to steams login API.

@AiwaIs a very good developer and has helped me so much recently, I would recommend all his work if it's private or public.

btw Aiwa, thanks for the support, I appreciate it alot, there's so many developers out there that just don't respond. 🙂
