To put it simply, it welcomes newly registered members. It will welcome them with an optional personal message, email or topic alert. From there you can further customize each pm, email or topic message, the subject / title and so on. It also has the ability to welcome members that are added manually through the Admin CP.

This was an application that I had forgotten about from v3, so I was pleasantly surprised to see @Mike John update it for IPS 4.  This is one of those 'must have' applications to increase initial member engagement and I'm really glad I rediscovered this app.  As soon as I installed it from last night, I immediately had new members start making introductions in my Welcome board!

This app offers a multi-pronged approach to make initial contact:

  1. Personal Message
  2. Forum Post
  3. Email

I haven't fully thought about how I want to use this app, since I'd like to incorporate this as part of a larger 'welcome' campaign for new members and to get them acquainted, but this is an awesome start!

This application is free at the time of posting this, and it seems to be supported quite well by @Mike John one of the best developers in the marketplace in my opinion. The version of the modification I am reviewing was 2.5.0 for IPS 4.2.x (I used 4.2.1, at the time of this review).

Auto Welcome is quite a critical feature on my forums, as I like to have our resident bot send PMs to new members to welcome them and to show them around; explain what each forum is for and so on, and to make a good first impression on my new members. This application allows me to do that, and make it quite personable by allowing me to use '%member_name%' which allows my bot to address the user by their username. For a free application it's packed with features and I think it's quite well thought out and exceptionally reasonable. Oh and it's free, with great support. The application works perfectly for me and although I don't expect to come across any, I know if I come across any bugs the developer will most likely fix them quite quickly, a rare comodity these days. So I do highly recommend this application if you want to give your members a customised welcome.

Thank you Mike; for being awesome.

People love to get a welcome message on registration.

Works even if no email-validation is necessary.

Great app and the new feature Time day is a nice addition. It would be great if we could add multiple welcome messages so we can send one after 1st hour, second after a new day, third after a week etc.

Response from the author:

Built in support may come in the future but in the meantime, this plugin does support followup personal messages - https://www.devfuse.com/products/95-new-member-followup/

This is really a great app!  Something that should be built in to the suite.  @Mike John has performed a valuable service for the Invision community!

I particularly like how new Members can be given welcome statuses even though Status updates are disabled by default for new Members.  This way you can give new Members a welcome status while at the same time telling them how to enable/disable statuses, not to mention making new Members aware of the status update ability (which not all newcomers get off the bat).

I have a few thoughts for improvements which however do not take away from the awesomeness of this app:

It would be great if there were some way to include the new Member's name in a new Forum topic, if that's what one has set up.  Otherwise, if you have an Introduction forum where all the new Member posts go, you will have a list of topics called "Welcome" or "Welcome to..." or whatever without any variation, which doesn't look very good in a forum.

It would also be great to have the Profile Link include the Member's name instead of "View Member," even though the Profile Link text is customisable in languages.

Great work!

Great Plugin

Is there anyway to add multiple welcome message.   Say I have the initial welcome message but I need to option to send welcome message from a different user group.

Can I do something like that

Response from the author:

No sorry it doesn't support multiple messages. I've got this plugin that might work how you want - https://www.devfuse.com/products/95-new-member-followup/

I really like the app, but I cannot figure out how to get it to welcome the folks that join through the integration with Facebook/Twitter/Google/etc.  Looking at the support topic, it looks like Mike John is aware.  This is a real good app.  Love it.  Once that functionality is added it will be back to one of the best!

This program is worth its weight in gold! I really like the idea of giving users a reason to be active! Good work Mr. John.

The customer service is great, you walk me through the process step by step with all of your products. Small reminder for those who do all the tech work, not all are computer techies here, I know it is easy to get lost in the thralls of making cash and technical mumbo jumbo - but all consumers of this wonderful product are not technicians, but rather simpletons who really like the work; don't forget us when describing something to us.

Recommendation: Not a darn thing! You amaze me with every product you create!

All in All: 5/5 stars! Great product!

This is a very good app whose main limitation is due to an unfortunate change made by Invision regarding what events can be hooked into. As of this review (end of 2015) it is not possible to send a welcome message to members who have joined via social media logins. Nothing the dev can do about it, but still a significant shortcoming of the app.

This is exactly what I needed: 10/10.

Wish IPS should have thought of adding this beautiful customizable welcome email like this in 4.x

But it is possible to insert ip address variable (the ip address of the person who is registering) in welcome email?

This an awesome app

But now that IPS has made numerous changes and updates, don't you think its time for an update.....You Have over 2,000 downloads and not all of them use the same version of IPS. I hope this gets an update soon as it is needed on all boards.

thank you for the excellent app though.
