Allow File Types by Group 1.0.0

   (1 review)

6 Screenshots

This application makes it possible to allow different file types or file extensions for different groups, when uploading attachments. This is useful in many scenarios, such as letting normal members only upload images while staff members or other groups can upload all file types, or to allow members of a VIP group to upload images while normal members can only upload text files.

When installed, the application will add a new tab named Attachments to the group settings. There you can configure which file types or file extensions the group is allowed to upload. By default the global settings for attachments, configured on the Posting settings, are used. The group settings will take precedence over global settings, except if the global setting is set to “none”. In this case, attachments are considered disabled and no one is allowed to upload anything.

Just like the rest of my files, this plugin is and will always be completely free. All I ask in return is that you leave a review below if you find this plugin useful.

We have a very busy forum with lots of people coming to us for advice. We frequently ask them to post up documents and typically they were simply posting photographs of often quite lengthy documents which were difficult to manage but also took up a lot of space on the server.

As much as we tried to encourage them, they wouldn't put up documents in PDF format or doc format – et cetera. Eventually we had to pull the plug and restrict file types which affected everybody including the site team.

With this application, you can now allow your site team to post up image documents or any other file types without opening the floodgates to all your user base as well.

This is great because the site team, being much more experienced will post up image files when it's appropriate whereas the majority of the user base still have to post up files in some document format – which is much easier to deal with and also takes less server space.

This application is highly configurable and also I can tell you that the developer has paid a lot of attention to detail and gives fantastic support.

This is another way that the administration and site team of any forum can take better control of the platform and manage it more easily to the advantage of all concerned including the users.

And it's free!
